Twitter calling it a yes already, 25 minutes in. 70/30 or thereabouts. Some Dublin boxes coming in at 10:1 in favour

Listening to the radio now, feeling very excited
The general feeling seems to be in favour of Yes winning so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Can't wait to see the coverage from Dublin Castle later on when they announce the result.

The referendum counts will be boring, only interesting count will be the by election.

    Yes wins Marriage referendum.
    No wins Presidential age.
Maybe McKee has surprise win in Carlow/Kilkenny for Renua.

Person on Radio talking about how he illegally got to vote, living abroad but got the mother to register him.
It is on the papers today that some of the voters from abroad have committed voter fraud, but the state relies on people being of good faith.
Wouldn't have changed the outcome but this need to be dealt with.

Sorry I don't think other peoples lives and equality is there for your "entertainment". Momentous day for gay people, delighted

    South East Radio ‏@SouthEastRadio
It's looking like a 50:50 in #Wexford so far. The rural boxes mostly opened after 25mins #MarRef

Ah the superiority complex of the yes voter nice to see once again.

Anybody who voted no is dumb and homophobic.

There's a world of difference between dumb and ignorant. Dumb suggests an inability to understand, ignorant suggests an ability to understand just lacking the appropriate information. For example I'm pretty ignorant of the laws for setting up a private company. I could understand it if I read up on it but I just don't know enough about it right now.

So you can put away your outrage. When so many people voted because of surrogacy and adoption they clearly showed their ignorance. There can be no arguing with that, it's simple fact.

Most every general election I read on boards and hear on the radio about large numbers of college students complaining of a weekday vote and how they can't work around it. And some claim the government of the day don't want them voting anyway

    No complaints this time around

It's a nice change and maybe the students unions deserve some credit for helping along those were unsure how to register or how to change their location

The Government pick their days depending on the result they want. They don't want students and young people voting in things like Lisbon so they go for Thursday. They do want the young vote for marriage equality so they go for Friday.

    Very sly.

Not just gay people, either. I think one of the most positive things to come out of this referendum is how it exercised so many young people into registering to vote just so they could have their say. How many people came home from far away places just so they could have their say. That in itself is a beautiful thing.

My daughter is 20 and this is the first time she registered to vote because she was so wanted to have her voice heard. I hope she feels just as exercised to vote in the next GE and the next referendum. Anything that gets the younger generation to get out and vote fills my heart with joy.

Those that engaged in voter fraud need to be punished. It's a fecking shambles. The media praising them to the high heavens as they were coming home to make a mockery of the electoral system.

    Understandable not sly.

It would be silly to give the opposition the upper hand

    Not how politics works really.

A constitutional change requires the people be clearly informed and to make a decision based on the information. It's up to each side to state a case.

Of course, if people feel there's not been enough information or there is some ambiguity then they should perhaps do some research but ultimately are entitled to vote against change based on that.

Nonsense. With the right to vote comes responsibility. I know that's a naughty word to many these days but the simple fact is that if you want to have an impact on the country you need to make sure you know what you are talking about. You can't expect to be spoon fed, especially when there are "sides" who want to exert influence. We saw the No side lie and misrepresent as a matter of course for example. The onus is on the Government to ensure the information is there in an easy to acces and easy to read format. The onus is on the voter to put the time into understanding the information.

The lazy ****ers should be made do the count as soon as the polls close. This 9 o'clock the following morning stuff is horse****.

I'm sorry but for the likes of a referendum those forced to leave this jurisdiction due to economic circumstances on a temporary basis have as much right as anyone else to vote on this.

There should be a system in place that allows them a postal. If you're Irish you should have a vote.

    Voter fraud?

Lol, sounds like bitter lemons to me.

Did any from the No side commit the same voter fraud? Or is it just not being mentioned :)

Refcom have been shouting from the rooftops, if people havent bothered informing themselves and voted no for that reason they are ignorant pr1cks who don't deserve a vote.

They work from 7am - 10pm and there will be time before for setting up and time after for waiting for the local garda to collect the box

Maybe the junior doctors should run the elections as they already work 36 hours shifts ;)

Do you want integrity and security in the ballot boxes? A lot of the same people who count would have done a 17 hour day yesterday, id rather they were on the ball.

According to a poll, around 90% of people coming back to vote were yes voters, 10% no voters, so voter fraud would be in that percentage range per group most likely if some of them were committing voter fraud.
