Coming from an Australian that's rich, a nation that treats its indigenous people horribly and whose national.past time is racist abuse of their large Asian community...for what I saw in my time there

Even richer for a country that decriminalised homosexuality in 1994 and in Tasmania in 1997.

You've gotta love the Aussis' uniquely undiplomatic approach to everything : they're ashamed to be even more backwards than our potato munching conservative selves apparently.

“It is bad enough for us to fall behind New Zealand and Britain but to fall behind Ireland when Ireland has traditionally been the most socially conservative developed English speaking country is deeply embarrassing.”

I appreciate what they're trying to say but that isn't how you say it unless you want a slap!

I think the comment was made more in frustation at how things are at present in Australia when it comes to gay rights than a shot at Ireland. The mans been fighting for gay rights for nearly a quarter of a century and took the case that decriminalised homosexuality in Tasmania. I wouldn't take any offence.

Probably a stupid question but when and on what station will the results be broadcast. I've been up since 7. I presume rte will have live coverage?

Don't know about the TV channels, but RTE will be providing live coverage on the RTE player on the RTE website.

If you can read this, you're too close!

It's just the tactlessness of their diplomacy that I find amusing rather than taking offence.

Most every general election I read on boards and hear on the radio about large numbers of college students complaining of a weekday vote and how they can't work around it. And some claim the government of the day don't want them voting anyway

    No complaints this time around

It's a nice change and maybe the students unions deserve some credit for helping along those were unsure how to register or how to change their location

Minister of State and Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has said on Twitter: "I'm calling it. Key boxes opened. It's a yes. And a landslide across Dublin. And I'm so proud to be Irish today."

The referendum counts will be boring, only interesting count will be the by election.

    Yes wins Marriage referendum.
    No wins Presidential age.
Maybe McKee has surprise win in Carlow/Kilkenny for Renua.

Person on Radio talking about how he illegally got to vote, living abroad but got the mother to register him.
It is on the papers today that some of the voters from abroad have committed voter fraud, but the state relies on people being of good faith.
Wouldn't have changed the outcome but this need to be dealt with.

We're gone like the American networks, everyone rushing to be the first to call it

And that Labour TD will be right but "I'm calling it" seems a bit smug.
