A marathon and a 50km in the first 4 months of the year? I think you are doing just fine. Many don't appreciate the toll it takes on the body to run those types of long distances (and to recover properly from). They are not like 5/10kms. You can't bang them out week after week.

(You have to wonder. Some posters should consider the above before coming out with flippant comments.)

Thanks - ended up sick for 3 weeks after Donadea too which knocked me back a bit. Recovered well now though & ready for road :)

I should probably added that I was advised by a regular on here (who knows what he's at) to make sure the body was well recovered after Donadea before getting stuck in again. Took good note of that - good to have people around here who know what they are at and bother with us much slower people :)

Donadea is an interesting one. It's not like a 'normal' road 50km for many. I know a good few that really suffered after the race (runners both racing/using as training run). I'm not sure how you fared after the race but for many it took the bit extra to recover from (for various reasons).

3 weeks of a chest infection probably helped in a bizzare way - couldn't even think of running so gave the legs a chance maybe ??

    Aha the cavalry have arrived.

Surely that marathon can't be considered a real race if it was done on the way to a 50k race, it was a training run at most as it was probably done at LSR pace or slower if she was advised properly which I'm sure she was. But then again maybe she wasn't if she ended up sick for 3 weeks afterwards.

Why would there be need for the cavalry if you were genuine (as you said you were) - getting a bit confusing here now ??

Edit: 'She' ended up sick having caught the dose that was in the house for a week beforehand - I'm in the treehouse next time.

What? The cavalry? Please keep your immature comments to yourself. Unlike some, I don't have an agenda.

For the record. A marathon at any pace takes recovery. That's why 99% of marathon/ultra plans aren't littered with runs of 26+ miles.

You tell me why there was a need for the cavalry to take shots at me? All I did was offer advice on a log on a public forum which I thought wad the reason why people logged. You took the advice as genuine but others seemed to have different ideas.

Anyway I'll leave it there, good luck and all that.

You mentioned cavalry - I see it as others taking part in a discussion on a public log - both they (& you) are welcome to do so.

Why so angry? Shows a certain level of maturity to get angry so quickly.

And you made my point for me thanks Anthony, the marathon she did was a run of 26 miles not a race as she stated earlier.

Semantics - I said I did a marathon in January as a training run for Donadea - it was an official race (for what it's worth). Was not making a point either way

Maybe I'm missing something, but this doesn't sound very positive or encouraging to me.

Hey Wowzer, I could post a picture of my medal if you need proof - the kids have it somewhere but I'm sure I'd find it in a while if you'd like ?

Anyway, to get back to last weeks point!
When do you think you will get that race/timetrial in? Did you not make it to a Parkrun on Saturday?
Once you have approximate race pace we can advise on training paces and a simple programme but need to get cracking!

Lol. You're right though. I'm sitting here in fits of rage!! The keyboard won't last long! Ha.

I welcome debate. Just look at my log.

    Anyway....let's get back on course.

Didn't make a parkrun - in fact the weekend turned out to be not the best - the youngest was bitten on the face by a dog on Saturday - thankfully she got away with two areas of paper stitches but, as you can imagine, was fairly traumatised & needed a lot of tlc - not a nice experience to say the least !

Hoping to do Dunshaughlin in June - the evening start means matches are out of the way etc - my first 10k so haven't a clue what to expect. Planning on doing a time trial either later this week or early next to get an idea

Oh that sounds very traumatic for all of you, I hope she doesn't have any lasting ill effects from that.

Thanks Anna - could have one little mark physically but that will fade. She was doing fairly well the last few days but I can actually see the trauma in her today. Luckily we have a dog ourselves who is a gentle giant & he's giving her back a bit of confidence - not nice though.

I told you to ditch that family :D

If you are on the canal path a pretty handy place I know is between the gate at Killeen rd and 9th lock road. It's just over 1.5 miles from gate to gate so if you run from one gate to the other and back it's almost exactly 5k iirc. I used to do my intervals and tempos there so it's ideal for a TT as long as there are no killer swans about :p

Thanks, that sounds perfect - will defo get to this soon - I have a nice warm up route from the house to there too. No dodgy swans there as far as I know - great, thanks

wowzer you have just admitted to coming on to kits log to provoke a reaction. You had a post deleted and in turn a warning yesterday. This is your last warning.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,915 ✭✭✭✭menoscemo

Wowzer, I am disappointed to say I saw both of the posts from yesterday and today that were subsequently deleted. I have been trying to stay as neutral as possible in all this so I said nothing when you came on here yesterday with you 'faux concern' but your behaviour has been very poor. I think you owe kit an apology tbh.

Lads, ignore it - I knew what he was at but had no intention of letting him wind me up - water off a duck's back (or a dodgy swan in keeping with the recurrent theme of this log ;) )

The first thing I should be consistent about is keeping this log updated - had to go to page 4 to find it (& back a few pages on the log itself to see when I'd last updated about running ). Likely to be sparse on detail for the first week I'm afraid.

Mon 4 May - Bank holiday - out & about with the kids all day but managed an easy 3 around Clondalkin in the evening

Tues 5 May - Younger kids had a day off school which left me fairly stuck - Just the same 3 this evening.

Wed 6 May - working from home am (sick kiddie), dropped a car over to Navan Road at lunchtime on my way to work & ran in through the Phoenix Park - can't remember much about this except that it turns out that my work is only about 2 miles from the Park - must get up there more often at lunchtime - 4.5 miles in 40.xx

Wed 6 pm - Got a call to pick up schoolbooks for the eldest & put them in the backpack to run home. They were way heavier than I thought & I was feeling the effects in my glutes by the time I was around 4 miles in. Pace was slowing, I was afraid I was doing damage, was feeling sh1te & the Luas stop was right there - a very very rare occurrence for me - I bailed & hopped on the Luas. Ran from there home alright to bring the daily total to 9 miles. Not sure how I felt about this later - absolutely hate bailing on anything but felt fairly ropey all evening so might have been for the best.

Thurs am - cycle to work - 6.5 miles. Had planned to run home but got caught with a late meeting & knew I'd be tight for time so did the usual lunchtime 5 miles & cycled home.

Fri am - run to work - 6.5 miles - think this was 1.00.xx or so

Fri pm - run home - 6.5 miles - can't remember the time (problem with not updating at the time :()

Sat - busy morning with kiddie swimming, funeral & match. Had planned to get out in the afternoon but spent it at the swiftcare clinic with the youngest who was bitten by a dog (details above somewhere) & the rest of the evening doing the mammy thing !

Sun - Only opportunity for a run today was going to be early but I wasn't sure how she was going to be when she woke up & didn't want to be missing - (I know you told me to ditch the family Meno - but that's the way it is :p Daddy can be the best in the world but when the trauma sets it they seem to come my way)

33 miles for the week but no long run - weekend messed that one up

Will update on last week later if I get a chance.

I think you did the right thing by bailing! Too much damage potential, books are quite unwieldy to bounce around on your back
Hope the little one is recovering well.

Thanks, yeah - I reckon I did but hate bailing. Little one is doing ok - she has her communion next Saturday & I don't think the face will be healed but it's not so bad now. World war 3 has broken out in the family however about the offending dog - it's one my sister-in-law took in 3 months ago. I assumed it would be gone immediately given that it had bitten a child in the face but she is having it assessed by a dog psychologist to see if it was an abberation  The only assessment we need is our daughter's face so you can just imagine .................

 I can only imagine...so the dog really is an unknown quantity...says it all really....

I can sympathise. I carried a teammate's trophy home from Terenure because he didn't even have a bag, so I stuck it in my backpack. Damn thing was jumping around the whole way back.

OMG, a dog psychologist, I have heard it all now... I'm with you on this one.
