Yes. If the turnout is more than 30% I will gladly eat my hat at Irelands first gay wedding. If its less you have to donate 10 euro to the Iona institute. :)

If its over 30% you have to give €10 to BelongTo

Ohhh good point, I wouldn't have a clue now to be honest but that could well be it!

Well I asked before up here a few days ago and nobody answered (too busy with real issues!) but I'll tell you something for nothing - I've voted on every SSM poll up here I found, but I discovered I had to cast my vote for this one again (can't imagine I missed it the last time!), so go check if you didn't vote on this one.....

Although it does indicates how less votes means a lesser win for the Yes side, and shows the importance of getting people out to vote.

I assume with one of the thread merges? polls seem to override each other?

I do remember voting on a poll under "undecided" and this time under "yes", so...

Yes, or it may just indicate a skew in how many people have/haven't copped that they could vote again? Or it could be my imagination and the poll is the same :o A moderator could sort this out pretty easily!

I get it. Its about equality. There are so many red herrings and psuedo arguments being put forward by both sides that I think it is turning off a large part of the electorate and the referendum will have a turnout of one of the 3 lowest ever to have been held in this state. The lowest ever being 28.6% in 1979. I still think its ironic that after all that has happened in Ireland in the last 6 years that the 2 questions put before the Irish people on Friday are to extend marriage rights and lower the age of candidates in presidential elections. The vast majority of the Irish electorate could not give a sh1te about either question. If you dont believe me lets see what the turnout is. I predict less than 30%. So a majority, for yes or no in no way represents the view of the vast majority who couldn't care less.

That is one of the worst concession speechs EVVVVER.
It simply reeks of sour grapes.

Lucky for you it's just a draft so there is time to tweak completely rewrite it and pretend to be magnanimous.

    :P

I have gotten to know a lot of LGBT people over the years, and I'm sure I know many more that are not out of the closet,
That is not all that surprising though because pretty much every single one of the ones I know has at one point mentioned they had been shouted at in the street, spat on, had stuff thrown at them, almost run over with a truck ect. just because of who they are.

I've witnessed this kind of abuse, more than once, I've seen how hurt the person on the receiving end of this abuse gets and it is horrible.
I can't imagine randomly going through stuff every now and again like that my entire life.
Because of this it is no wonder that a lot of people think they never knew any LGBT people and think of "The gays" as some sort of bad concept, rather than actual human beings that are just like the rest of us.

I also get that people that people are afraid of stuff that they don't really understand and form their own biases against it, I also get that people can parrot back rhetoric without realizing the impact of the words they use.

Just because someone hasn't learned something yet (i.e the No voters) does not necessarily make them a bad person, but nay sayers bear in mind the words you say to someone can be a lot more hurtful and to a lot more people than you realize.

Different poll :) That's what I mean though. The less people who vote, the less chance of a clearer win which makes sense anyway but the polls just show it here.

    So why pretend you did?

But Darling... if you didn't 'give a ****' you'd hardly have posted in such impassioned terms? Chose one line and stick to you it, you are embarrassing yourself.

One has the right to change ones mind, to be undecided, to be no, to be yes.

Just as one has the right to be gay, to be bisexual, to be celibate, to be transgender.

Or do you believe one has to chose one line and stick to it? Is it embarrassing to be unsure? To be undecided? I dont think so. I respect people who struggle with their conscience, to understand matters, to think deeply.
The fact is less than half of the citizens will be bothered to vote either way.

This is probably going to offend everyone here and I'm also Godwining myself, all in one foul swoop, but I don't really care, this referendum is disgusting! It's a good thing that Nazi Germany never invaded Ireland because the same type of people who seem to be lapping up Iona's vicious propaganda would have been goosestepping and hail hitlering within about 25 seconds, and there seems to be a disproportionate amount to be honest!

Talk about gullible gob****es! I'm voting no now because the yes side are bullying /behaving badly /being mean /I'm doing it for democracy / to save the children/ to save the ****en whales. Errrrrrr no wrong! The right answer is that you have changed from yes to no (if that is really your honest position) because Iona and friends have managed to indoctrinate you with their propaganda during a freaken referendum campaign!

Go ahead and vote no and keep your country in the middle of last century, God knows that you have always done a really good job of that, and it looks like you plan to continue.

And you may tell me to go home if I don't like it here, because I'm sure that will follow in response to my rant! I'll tell you now that I'd be more than happy to after this appalling referendum campaign! For fecks sake your countrymen are asking for equal rights. This is a human rights issue and the response is disgusting! The Iona Institute should be charged with inciting hatred and closed down, but no they are given tax breaks instead!

    Wake up for fecks sake!

Go home if you don't like it here. This is a Catholic country, you can hardly be surprised at the opposition to gay marriage. What were you expecting?

Yes, because so much of the population are at mass every Sunday. More accurate to describe Ireland as a "lapsed catholic" country, more and more so as the years go on methinks

So Catholicism gives rights for inequality?
I mean, I know the religion exercises inequality in many forms, but "because religion", is a reason there should not be equal rights.
    #sighs#

I can't stand people making choices for others, feel what you believe, but do not force people to bend to your will, because of those beliefs.

Read my post again. I was expecting exactly that! You are so predictable.

And no it's not a Catholic country and you should know that since its your country!

We are NOT a Catholic Country - we are a Republic

Oh dear... just when we thought you couldn't stoop lower than accusing people of giving their baby daddy the boot and turning lezzie you morph into Paddy UKIP..

And it's not a Catholic Country - it's a country with a lot of (a la carte) Catholics.

    "This is a Catholic country"

Hmm where have I heard that one before
Typically used in relation to the most unchristian of acts.

Kiwi, I feel your pain  I think half the country are institutionalised by growing up here either kicking against the pr1cks, or taught how to think by them. Myself included. I burn out regularly against the vicious and sordid narrow-mindedness. It's very upsetting and a horrible legacy to be passing onto our children, as we surely will - I can predict my sons and my niece marching for the very same reasons I have done since childhood. I can't give up on Ireland though - the dichotomy is a part of me and every one of us. Hope you don't give up on us cos we need all the help we can get to become civilised :o

If this is anything to go by there will have be a civil war before abortions is legalised.
