The Daily Mail have realised a shocking article showing a Ryanair plane landing in WIND!

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-3070344/Video-shows-Ryanair-plane-caught-crosswind-landing-Leeds-Bradford-Airport.html

Its like aviation comedy. The plane was forced to land sidewards!

I arrived back on the delayed EI183 just before 11, was kind of hoping we would be late enough to land on 16, we were one of the last to arrive on 28, saw 34 was in use on the way home & was disappointed we weren't delayed a little later :(;)

American Airlines AA71 from Frankfurt to Dallas is squawking the 77's off the west coast of Scotland and has turned back towards Glasgow with a leisurely descent.

A plane spotter has captured the heart-pounding moment a Ryanair flight was caught in powerful crosswinds as it approached a runway.
The plane’s crew battled to maintain a straight flight path as the Boeing 737 was blown to the side by punishing wind gusts at Leeds Bradford International Airport yesterday.
It created the optical illusion that the passenger jet was hovering over the ground while it was coming in for landing.

What an absolute ****rag of a "newspaper".

FR7045 AGP-DUB just went around, seems there's an Aer Lingus still on the runway

I was on EI104 coming in to Dublin this morning, anyone know why it was delayed in a holding pattern out on the irish sea for a good 25 mins or so? I'm a regular flier on that and have never seen that happen before, didn't think the airport be overly busy at 5am?

Runway 10/28 closed for maintenance last night, maintenance finished at 5am and by the time they cleared up and checked the runway for FOD the first arrival would be about 5:15 - 5:30

Ah, sounds about right, think we came over Dublin about 5 am and landed 5:20-25 ish.

It was a bit unnerving though, the crew never bothered to mention it.

What would be unnerving about it?
It's a very common event. Look around Heathrow any time on FlightRadar24...

Because aircraft only ever fly straight with the odd turn, maybe even a sharp turn now & again, they never fly in circles.....

It's a common enough occurrence, but I think it would be nice of the crew to mention it for the benefit of infrequent fliers who are wondering what's going on. And even for frequent fliers who would think nothing of circling at Heathrow, but who might wonder what's causing a delay at such an early hour in Dublin.

You must never have flown into LHR! :p

Thanks for the explantation billie1b and razor44. Was a bit surprised to see 104 in a holding pattern while other planes were landing at the time. I guess the North South runway must be too short for the 330's?

@Micky32: You can see the pretty patterns your plane was making on Flightradar here:
