Why do you get to say it's a choice?

Because you CHOOSE to marry numerous people, you can love as many people as you want but its a CHOICE to marry them all

It's just his opinion. So going by your logic you don't get to question it. Nyah :pac:

And the church believe being gay is choice, so we respect each other. Personally I think we are born with our sexuality but you can believe it's a choice that's your right

Yes it is your right but when did forcing your belief's on others become a right?

Also it is my right to question those beliefs and disagree with them if I want

Yes so saying the referendum is about equality is a falsehood. As bad as the no posters

"the referendum is about equality" is indeed somewhat false I'll give you that.

However at least it relates to the Topic/Question at hand to extend the current civil marriage rights and recognition to same sex marriage.

See it's all about context, the context being the upcoming vote in the referendum.

The No posters indicating voting no is for the children or that children deserve a mother and father and hence vote no. Now this might indeed be their opinion, but it is completely disconnected form the reality that this is not the question we are voting on in the upcoming the referendum.

See if I printed up posters saying "Water should be free - Vote Yes"
It would be as related to the topic of marriage as the No side posters are currently to same sex marriage.

We're not having a referendum about polygamy!

Nor are we having a referendum about banning the serving of overcooked Brussels sprouts.

If people want to keep throwing in concerns about topics that we are not voting on, it's going to make this whole debate a total farce.

It's been bad since the beginning, but it's just getting plain ol' ridiculous in here now.

    Polygamy? FFS.

Yes of course gay marriage is a choice just like heterosexual marriage is a choice you don't have to do it if you don't want to, although i think we have stepped into a weird argument here.

Lets get back to you equating polygamy with gay marriage though they are not the same, currently any one man is allowed marry any one woman and vice versa any one woman is allowed marry any one man. However any one man is not allowed marry any one man and similarly any one woman is not allowed any one woman. Fixing this inequality is allowing the latter to happen and has zero to do with polygamy no matter how much you try and straw man it into the argument

It's about equality between straight people and gay people.

But there is still an equality when a man wants to marry two women etc. The vote is for yes ssm not yes equality cuase it won't fix all the inequality in marriage.

The posters should have yes ssm marriage on them if they didn't want to be misleading

If someone agrees we should be allowing polygamy if we want to call it equality he'll move on 'why can't someone marry their dog/teapot'.

Dog and teapot cannot consent. Nice misgendering too.

IT IS! That's not a falsehood. Did you misunderstand the question?

We will be voting on this:
Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.

The posters I've seen state something along the lines of "Yes for equality".

It still leaves consenting adult unable to marry and commit to their relationships

How about that you accept that everyone knows that "Yes for Equality" is shorthand for "Yes for Equality Between Homosexual Couples and Heterosexual Couples" and get on with making an actual point?

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Sorry. I thought we were posting nonsensical gibberish.

I really hope this passes with a Yes vote - so I can forget about all the disgusting and infuriating attitudes of the No side.

What's driving me bonkers is that they keep raising the issues of suragacy and adoptive rights - particularly access to biological parents information.

Those are both very real issues in Ireland but they're a totally separate issue to this referendum.

Most reasonable people probably think those areas need to be looked at but its just nothing to so with gay marriage.

Ireland's adoption laws left a legacy of tens of thousands of people denied access to biological parents and family records. This was entirely down to conservative values pushed by mostly Catholic and Protestant adoption agencies who thought that these children were shameful so hid or failed keep records.

We've also got a legacy of forced adoption and child trafficking to the U.S. by some of these same organisations !

All of those things need to be addressed!

The reality is that straight couples adopted kids without any ability to link back to biological parents and the modern realty is that couples be they straight or gay are using totally unregulated suragacy and donation services.

The makeup of the couple is irrelevant in this situation and voting No because you think it'll regulate suragacy is a complete waste of a vote as it will do no such thing.

If you want suragacy and adoption modernised and regulated properly in the interests of children - lobby for that!

Twisting it into an argument against two gay people getting married is ridiculous and can only be explained by someone in reality just not liking gay couples with kids.

The other reality is that there are plenty of gay coupes with kids. It happens and it'll continue to happen and gay adoption is perfectly legal in Ireland already with our without gay marriage.

Voting no doesn't mean that gay families disappear. They're not something new. All it means is that you're potentially denying kids rights to the legal guardianship of one of their parents and creating a load of legal nonsense that they'll have to negotiate should one parent die. You're also making a convoluted mess of inheritance of family homes and assets.

You're right. We should also rename horse riding to equine riding because horse riding excludes ponies. But that would make it include zebras and we don't ride zebras... What should we call it so?

That would be an issue of LAW, not sexuality though. It is about sexual equality.

You are muddying the waters and trying to derail the discussion, polygamy has nothing to do with equality in marriage and i suspect you know this but wish to just derail the whole thread

    What's the point?

I haven't seen any falsehoods in the YES camps posters - gravehold said that there were some. I wanted to know what they were basically.

They dont claim that there will be absolute equality for everyone. Just equality between heterosexual and homosexual people.

Homosexual or hetrosexual polygamous people still can't get married

No. It will mean that all consenting couples ARE able to marry.

Well if that bothers you, you should probably push for a referendum on that issue.

Because it is a law that only two people can marry. This referendum is about allowing two people of any sexual combination to marry, not that everyone can marry everyone at the same time.

It is changing marriage with regards to sexuality (equality), not numbers.
