    Can someone close this thread?

The same pattern has been repeating itself over 630 pages and will doubtless continue for the next 3 weeks.

The (mostly) dumb minority have had their posts ravaged by the (mostly) smug majority who then proceed to give each other metaphorical 'high fives'.

The referendum will be passed. In 2 years time nobody will remember what all the fuss was about.

Yes silencing debate is definitely the way to go

    Q.E.D.

Q.E.D what frosty? Seriously explain please.

Meanwhile can you bother answering some of the several questions you have persistently ignored over the last few pages for instance when I asked...

'what do you think homosexuality is, if not natural?'

It sounds silly, for those whom it affected it probably wasn't and isn't.

Debate? Conservatives are as welcome as a pile on Boards.ie 'After Hours' forum.
90 per cent of posters here want a yes vote. Not a single political party or credible media outlet are disagreeing with them. Why feel the need to pounce rabidly on the 10 per cent who disagree.
A YES vote is in the bag...and that's probably a good thing.

I think whatever people do behind closed doors is their own business. I won't cast judgment on them.

Probably because they openly state their intention to work towards our continued status as second class citizens, probably because they attack our families. Do have the remotest idea of how it feels to have your private life torn apart and savaged daily in the media and to have to plead with strangers for your right to be seen as an equal? Jesus weeps.

In 2 years time nobody will remember what all the fuss was about.

In 2 years time, all the No campaigners will be pretending they voted Yes, just like Iona claim they were for Civil Partnership back when that was threatening to destroy the fabric of Irish society.

(They are lying, by the way, as usual, in case you hadn't noticed.)

. And this, children, is what we call hubris. As Wikipedia says, when it offends the gods of ancient Greece, it is usually punished.

You mean offend these Gods ? You must be taking lessons from Eris

So if they close the doors of the registry office before they get married, you're in favour? Good man.

This, children, is what we can pedantry.

I'm just drawing out a point that I've noticed many Yes posters using on this site.

And this, children, is what we call hubris.

You really can't see yourself, can you?

There's only one person practising pedantry fuelled by their own hubris here, and it sure as hell ain't me.

Not one of the no voters has come up with a reason for voting no that doesn't boil down to "i dont like gays"

Also a yes vote is not in the bag and its people like you who say things like that which will lead to the no side winning as it only encourages complacency and people saying on election day "sure its gonna be a yes why should i bother voting"

I just did. I have no opinion on homosexuality, it's none of my business. Marriage on the other hand...

Do you not think people should be free to make that decision for themselves?

I have the form printed. Is it too late to get it signed by the guards and sent off? I'm not sure on the cut off date. Someone said the 5th of May?

That is demonstrably untrue. You have explicitly stated that the idea of homosexuality being natural was news to you, so I am asking what do you (or did you) think homosexuality is (was)? In the spirit of hearty debate please do answer.

No it is just too late to post it back to your local authority owing to the bank holiday. You can still have it signed by the guards and drop it into your local authority on tuesday. Tuesday is the last day.

Yes? Marriage on the other hand... ??

Would I be correct in assuming you mean to imply that marriage is your business?

I can't see anything wrong in saying that. It is a fundamental institution provided by the State and governed by the State on behalf of the citizens of the State. That absolutely makes marriage your business.

Now, you have no issue with homosexuality, so what exactly is your issue with allowing people of the same sex to enter into marriage?

I'm really trying hard to understand here what exactly your issue is when marriage is your business, yet you wish to deny people the opportunity to enter into marriage on the basis that they are a couple of the same sex, which you claim is none of your business?

It's a kind of circular infinite logic that defies anything I can come up with, which is why I would like to understand where you're coming from.

It was genuinely the first time hearing it described as natural. I would have thought a male being with a female was natural, as is the case with all other living creatures (please don't reference some weird gay monkey tribe in the Amazon as a counter).

I'll repeat the question again in the hopes this time you'll answer it. What do you think homosexuality is, if not natural?

I will be voting yes but i am a little dissapointed on both sides on how they is all panning out as it's not dignified atall.

What we need to be voting on it free childcare or state funded childcare breaks.

You have a two tier society atm where people who are long term social welfare jockeys are having kids to beat the band and if they get away with it can you blame them.

Where people on lower tiers of employment are really struggling to pay childcare for their 1-2 kids and pay a mortgage, not exactly adept social planning i think you will agree.

Maybe it's a harsh view but there you have it.

So playing the "everyone who doesn't support the SSM referendum is homophobic " card will encourage more people to vote yes ? Really ? Dream on ! I support the referendum but wouldn't disrespect those who feel otherwise by labelling them as homophobic - play the ball, not the man or woman ! I know people who have reservations on the issue and I also know that the same people haven't a homophobic bone in their body. Yes, the arguments of those who object to SSM needs to be addressed and countered, but in a respectful way rather than name calling and abuse. There is a large silent mass of middle Ireland out there who have voting power and who will not take kindly to being told they are homophobic if they have a view not in line with the proponents of the SSM debate. Those who would use this argument are merely supplying ammunition to the anti SSM side and need to realize that demonising their opponents is just fighting intolerance with more intolerance.

Oh, dear. How these people react when things aren't going their way.

I'd point out that I didn't say you were particularly hubristic, but that would be pedantic.

What I certainly can see is all the agitated posts sparked by a banal comment.
