Thinking of the TomTom Start 25

    Hi all,

I'm thinking of picking up a Sat Nav this week and was looking at the TomTom Start 25 with full EU maps and lifetime updates for about €110.

I don't really use much satnav here in Ireland, I mainly use it when abroad on holidays in the likes of France, Spain, Portugal etc..

At the moment I'm using a Nokia 925 with HERE maps and that works great, kinda thinking of getting a dedicated unit though.

Reading some reviews of the Start 25 though I see a lot of people complaining about how long it takes to load the satellites with some waiting up to 20 minutes. Also some say the device is very laggy when inputting addresses etc..

Also, I'm not sure if I would be better served in holding on til later in the year when the Eircodes will be launched - I presume that eventually newer satnavs will have features to be able to use Irelands' new post code system?

I'm not in any huge rush to get a satnav, won't be going abroad again til Sept/Oct so could wait closer til then to pick up one.

I was interested in the TomTom Start 25 atm however as it's currently less than half price in Argos.

Has anyone any opinions on this unit? Any suggestions of other models around the €100 mark to check out? Doesn't have to be TomTom.

Would love to hear any feedback.

    Thanks all.

IMO, you're better off getting a One Plus One with a free android navigation app.

Better hardware, better software, live connectivity and a new phone to boot.

My dad did this and is happy he did.

Funny you should say that, I was actually half thinking of getting a new phone and the One Plus One definitely took my fancy.

Currently have a Sony Xperia Ultra and have the Nokia 925 for using HERE maps with it which I find great.

I possibly would be better off getting a new phone and a good cradle / mounting kit.

Is there any advantages nowadays in getting a standalone satnav VS decent smartphone these days?
