Help identify this song, it's driving me mad....

I'm having to throw myself on the collective wisdom of AH. Now I know I have no hope...

For the last few days I have had a song stuck in my head, I only half know the words to one line and it's going round and round and round and round. Please help me identify it so that I can listen to it and get rid of it forever from my head!

It's an older song, probably 80s, probably goth. It's not the Cure, the Smiths or any of those bands. Could be someone like the Teardrop Explodes?

It has a heavy bass line without a lot of other instrumentation and is sung by a man with a deep voice. The only line I half know is something like "if this is how the (story?) (goes / ends?) I'll (lose?) my mind"

Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Sounds like it might be "To Cut a Long Story short" - by spandau Ballet

I think it's something from Nin Huguen and the Huguen Notes.

one of the lines the OP half knew isnt even in the song.

As soon as I read his half-remembered lyric the "to cut a long story short I lost my mind" popped into my head.

    Goth?

I guess if a SB song sounded dark, that was the one, it was from a bit before their "True" days.

It actually does sound kinda goth/the darker sound of New Romantic for Spandau Ballet - it's one of their very early numbers. Brilliant song. I got it from the OP's description too, "story" and "lost my mind" - those are some of the main words in the chorus.

About the only decent song that Spandau ever did, although there's one or two others on Journey's to Glory that I quite like. It's much more spare and funky than the later stuff.

I actually liked the whole True/Only When You Leave phase.

I hate the way people think singing "Gold" is gas.

To my shame, I kinda like I'll Fly For You.
