    Saturday – Ardgillan Parkrun
    :D Course PB :D
The last time I did Ardgillan was just before Christmas when I was still buzzing from a good run at Jingle Bells and doing loads of hills in preparation for the Fat Turkey 10K. So while I was hoping for a better time today I hadn’t the specific preparation in the legs like last time. I met a friend who had promised to drag me around (I don’t think he even broke a sweat ) and we lined up a few rows back after a warm up jog, a few drills and some strides. The course is pretty much downhill for the first mile or so and I was feeling good, overtaking on the way down. I spotted the leading woman who I recognised from the last outing and tried to latch on to her but she was stronger on the flat bits and she maintained the gap on the uphills. After the initial downhill the route is two loops at the base of the Estate which involves a couple of short uphills and then a longish drag. Fine the first time, but jeez by the second loop I really wanted to call it a day. Then my friend gave me some brilliant advice which was to ease back slightly on the sharper climbs to conserve energy for the less hilly sections. This really worked and the gap was closing. At one stage I was so close but by that point I was really sapped of energy and it was taking everything I had just to hang on. The finish is a killer – you turn up to the Castle and it’s a steep climb of maybe 250m. I saw by the watch that I might sneak a course PB and gave it a bit of welly even though I really had nothing left, my main thought at that point being I’m sure as heck not going to take less than a PB now after this torture. So all that for 11 seconds but I’m really pleased with the way I ran. 2nd lady and 14th overall. A good morning’s work, finished off with a massive breakfast.

I know I worked hard because the young un had me playing tag later out in Newbridge House and I couldn’t catch her
    • 4.5 miles total (trail) including w/up and c/down

Ssssh don't give away our home cooking recipes :) and would you stop, you're like a mountain goat on those trails, bounding along.

Congrats on the parkrun, sounds like a really challenging course. But still the second lady, impressive. Do you mind me asking what the finishing time was out of curiosity?

Thanks Firedance, I think Friday's run might have helped actually, got the legs used to climbing again!

It's a tough course definitely but such a fab location. An amazing training ground actually with hills of all shapes and sizes. Couldn't do it without the pilates ;)

22:45. I think (hope!) the course is close to 2 mins slower than a flat course (for me anyway) because my goal for the Tallaght 5K is to get under 21 mins. Fingers crossed.

It felt like 2500m!! It it goes on forever and the finish line never seems to get any closer. One for you to do if you're over again before your Hills race.

    Sunday – easy run
Didn’t get out until after six after a busy chocolate-filled day which started with a 5:xx wake up call. The Easter Bunny has now learned a valuable lesson and will know better than to leave chocolate treats in a child’s bedroom and expect a lie-on. D’oh.
Plan was for an out and back on grass so headed towards the Wooden Bridge along the promenade. A breeze at my back on the return leg meant a negative split so I did an extra bit to make up the 50 minutes, ending up lost, yet again, in the Marino circles  10 minute walk cool down. :o
    • 5.8 miles (50:00) on grass mainly

TOTAL WEEKLY MILES: 18 (R&R week)

Today’s supposed to be a rest day but not running would be a waste of a beautiful day and a Bank Holiday to boot so I’ll rejig the plan to fit a run in. But first to head to St.Anne’s and cheer on the 10 milers.

Monday – an impromptu short long run
It was supposed to be a rest day but way too nice not to run, so after spending the morning and most of the afternoon in St.Anne’s with BG Jr, watching the 10 miler, spinning in the Teacups and hitting the playground, I headed back there again for a couple of peaceful laps on the trail inside the perimeter. Shorts and t-shirt weather – finally! Kept it very easy and didn’t do the usual OCD-inspired extra quarter mile at the end to bring it up to 8 miles exactly. Will I start melting now ? Or turn into a pumpkin ? ;)
    • 7.767139 miles (71:00 ish) :D

Plan for the rest of the week is easy/fartlek/rest/easy/K-Club/easy. Less than 4 weeks now until Tallaght 5K so time to clean up the diet, lock the wine cellar and focus on the BHAG*. Unfortunate timing with a holiday coming up shortly but hopefully the benefits of some warm weather training will outweigh the occasional holiday vino

    Tuesday
Only had 20 minutes to run today :(
    • 20:00 (2.2 miles)

    Wednesday
I think I finally have the solution for my Wednesday evenings! I knew last week when I just couldn’t face the gym after Pilates that I needed to change the routine, but at the same time I need to keep up the strength & conditioning or I will fall apart. Inspired by Mimojo’s log I realised I could fit in a class in the gym some morning before work leaving me time to do a run on Wednesday between Pilates and Body Balance.Ta da! Options are a Gravity Strength class on a Tuesday or a Circuits class on a Wednesday. Might try them both out to see which one will kill me less.

Pilates was good tonight, somehow the studio always manages to find great instructors, our new teacher was excellent. Fartlek session straight after on the promenade and over the Wooden Bridge (bursts of 30/45/60/75/90/75/60/45/30 seconds) at 3K effort with equal recoveries. So much fun, loved this session! Only had time to do arms and shoulders in the gym (hurray :o) before Body Balance. Then a short jog home. Dinner and catching up on Masterchef. Still wired though :pac::pac::pac:

Pilates, followed by fartlek session, gym and then body balance!! That's a busy night! ( I had to google body balance )

Good luck on Saturday. Will keep an eye for you there. Do you have a goal time ?

Gotta make the most of the Get Out of The House cards

Good luck yourself! I'm hoping for 44:xx, anything quicker than 44:43 will be a PB so fingers crossed. The calculators are throwing up 44:08 on average based on Raheny 5 but I'll try to do the first half conservatively and see what happens. Hard to do in my Garmin free world, let's hope they have Km markers! See you there amongst the tea and cakes afterwards I guess :D

Similar target to me. Based on my last 5k time of 21:07 vdot and Macmillan have me ranging between 43:51 and 44:25 so I'd be very happy with that given that training has been so haphazard lately. 43:50 is my current pb but I'd be satisfied with sub 45 on sat.

    Thursday
    Rest

    Friday
Pilates, check. Body Balance, check. Easy run, check. Strides, check.
All set for tomorrow so. Just a bit of foam rolling tonight I think, but the body’s feeling pretty ok. The back/QL issue has been downgraded to a niggle and my hip that had been feeling slightly lopsided for ages appears to have popped back into place again.

Looks like there will be a good crowd from here at the K-Club tomorrow. Good luck to everyone and see you amongst the tea and cakes after :D
