I have a small home network and it is 7 and xp. The problem is that I have one computer I cannot access files off. I can see it on all the other computers but I cannot see any files. I get
access denied when trying to access folders. The os is 7, is there any way to see the files. How do I set it up to see the computer files. It was setup by someone else. The computer is in the workgroup. when I go to find the computers to share files with using the computer's names it finds no results. What am I doing wrong?

Probably nothing. I have the same problem with one machine on my network. I got around it on the other machines by mapping the shared folder on the machine they could see but not access as a network drive.

    It then allowed access.

Can you tell me more about how you did that Please?

Still having a problem as my first post and I seem to have shared the files. When I go in to the network and look at the computer I have shared on the computer I shared the files I can't see any shared files. It is windows 7, it is in the same workgroup as the other computers. What am I doing wrong and how do I set it up? Just to update to this post in one folder I can see the folders I want to share but it will not allow me access to the folder and the folders seem to be empty. I have included a screenshot.

That would not help because I have a number of folders I need to Share files from and if I move them to the public folder they will have to use the file in the public folder and not in the original folder. How do I give correct permissions to be allowed to access the files.

Sorry for such a late reply but I've not been on Boards for a while.

On the computers which can't access the shares from Explorer choose map a network drive (from the tools menu or the task bar)

Enter the share name as \\servername\share name. Choose to connect using a user name and password. Use a user name/password combination from the machine where the share is and which has access to the folder.
