For example, I am fairly certain that posters that have claimed to put me on an ignore list are quoting my posts several hours or days later.

Would it not be better all round that you prove that bit ^^ and report to the mods?

Before doing so, I am clarifying on this thread whether that kind of behaviour is acceptable.

But that poster hasn't done what you claim others (you have presented no evidence of) have done, i.e. quoting posts several hours or days later

I just think you might be trying to flame, inadvertently of course.

LeeMajors said he had put me on ignore the day he was banned. He says he's doing it again today.

LOL I hope you are not asking for people to be banned just because they didn't put you on their ignore lists :D

I am not trying to flame, I am seeking clarification of the rules.

There are certain posters who appear to use "I am putting you on ignore" as a baiting and flaming tactic. I am querying whether that is acceptable. In the Cafe it is akin to "Get out of the Cafe, **** off, I am not talking to you" which would be looking for a fight in a real-life Cafe. There is nothing wrong in putting a poster on an "ignore" list, it is the type of post referenced above which announces it to the world in an aggressive way that I am querying. If I am told by the mods it is ok, fair enough.

The point about quoting a few hours later is a secondary issue.

    What's aggressive about?
Anyway, onto the ignore list with ya, it's best all round

Seriously? Come on Happyman, I have too much respect for you to see you resort to that. Look at the post in full.

    Don't patronize.
The post is full of smiley's. A poster taking himself out of conflict and not, so far, doing what you alleged is the problem.

Well, it certainly looks that way now.
Not for putting them on the ignore list, for telling them they're going on the ignore list....
Of course, when someone else quotes them, it's hard no to see their posts....
    Sensitive souls around here.....

I can't honestly believe what I'm seeing here.....(and I'm only seeing it because you're quoting it happyman)
I mean, have you ever heard anything so ridiculous in all your days?

I really, really want to hear a moderators thoughts on this.:(

I never understood the need to announce it tbh.

Used to be a guy who did it regularly, I could picture him talking to himself somewhere in AH or Poltics.

I'd announce it so the easily offended ones wouldn't bother replying to a poster who isn't going to read what they type.
Nice little dig there though.;) Says a lot.

It's an opinion Lee, people have different ones, makes the world go round.

No need to send in the SF swat team!

As long as we're all treated as equals regarding our opinions.;)

If it's used repeatedly it might be an issue.

I'm not going to give a b&w answer on it.

    On what?
That one is allowed state on thread that one has put a poster on ignore?

    A new tactic has arisen:

The Shinners refuse to accept proofs of statements, and then all agree with each other how terrible it is that people make statements without providing evidence.

How will the mods treat this one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,286 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Is that just for the shinners or is that for others as well? I watched question time on BBC over the last few weeks and the amount of time I have seen professional politicians to this is unreal therefore this is inherent in politics

As for finding 'putting you on the ignore list' offensive? That has to be a urine take!

In the main forum it will be zapped so please report it. In the Cafe there is greater leeway and it all depends on how the thread is going generally. Off topic banter (short of personal abuse) is welcome in the Cafe.

Feedback on this, and other types of annoyances is appreciated.

Cheers Johnny. The problem is that once such a tactic is introduced, the obvious consequence is that others are forced to adopt the same approach.

So, if a poster opens a thread based on a falsehood, and no matter how many times that falsehood is shown to be just that, continues with it, is there any sanction?

Similarly, when posters make a claim as to peoples reason for leaving this country, i.e salary, and those claims are proven wrong by producing studies from the group in question which clearly state the 3 main reasons have nothing to do with salary, are these posters allowed to continue to troll the thread by repeatedly asserting their initial claim as fact?

As above, in the main forum no. In thr Cafe maybe.

The thread in question was in the cafe, johnny, and was moved to the main forum yet the same behaviour continued.
I myself produced the reports and studies on thread regarding peoples (doctors in this case) reasons for leaving Ireland, yet posters here continued with their assertion that pay rates were the reason.

I also reported these posts as you know, but it continues.

The rules should be enforced in an even handed and fair manner. They're not.

    Studies are studies, not definitive,.

Otherwise somebody would provide a report or study and we'd lock it!

It's a politics board, people believe different things.

    Oh come on ffs.

Studies and surveys of the very people in question are 'not definitive'?

So, when the thousands of doctors surveyed gave their top 3 answers for leaving as, working conditions, no clear career path and work/life balance, they were wrong and a couple of anonymous posters here who claimed it was about salary are right?

What parallel universe is this we are in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭LeeMajors

Why, out of interest, were 2 posts just removed from this thread?

This one in particular, a blatant abuse of the rules being discussed, i.e flaming or baiting.

And if two thirds of them say salary is a factor? You know, the bit you keep leaving out? :pac:
