As a United fan I sure am glad that some other teams in the past played good football and won trophies, that more than makes up for the turgid crap we have been watching this season.

    Why would it do that?

It doesnt make me feel any better about how this season has been performance level wise anyway.

Pointing out that dour football is LVG's "way" is a ridiculously erroneous statement does ruffle the feathers eh

It's good to see a bit of optimism as regards the match, but for some reason I can't completely shake the prospect of more points dropped. The Swansea result rattled me which didn't help, but Sunderland have proved tricky for us in the recent past. They have a few players who seem to love playing against us, specifically Larsson and Cattermole. Then there's O'Shea and Brown who will always try for their best showing against the club of their careers.

Earlier this season we only managed a draw with Sunderland. Last season they beat us twice (league at OT and C1 cup away) and in the other league match, we had to come from behind to win (thanks to that Januzaj brace which ignited the hype rocket) So effectively last season, we went behind to them in all 3 games. This season though, we managed to remain ahead of them for all of 13 minutes in a match that finished a draw, so there's that going for us I guess. :o

Yeah, so I'm not the full 100% on a comprehensive win for our boys later. But surely, it has to be?! That 'kick into gear' has to be coming, right? It didn't last season I know, but we did actually manage to go on a bit of a run earlier this season where 6 games were won on the trot...6 games!!

I'm not one to seriously bet against United, but if I was to throw something small on the game it would be 'both teams to score' with a United victory. I wouldn't touch a 'United to win by 2 or more goals' bet, not this game. It could happen of course and I really hope this is the game to jump-start the Top 4 challenge that is really needed to see it out, but Sunderland can be complete c_nts against us.

It's my mothers birthday today. She's 75. She's a Utd supporter. Along with my wife and my sister(who is also a Utd fan) we are bringing her out for lunch before heading back to her house to watch the Utd match.

Now I am in no way a spiritual man but there is no way, for the day that's in it, that Utd won't win.

Nothing is going to spoil my mothers birthday today.

You don't even bother trying to disguise the fact that your posts are one curmudgeonly strawman after another at this stage, do you?

Could we see 4-5-1 today with Rooney as the lone striker .Might be the way to go ,

Hopefully Rooney Falcao up front with Mata behind and a midfield 3 of Herrara Blind and Dimaria

Think he will have two strikers, so Falcao and Rooney, Mata, Di Maria, Herrera and Blind, Valencia, Jones, Rojo and Shaw. De Gea in goal.

Probably so wrong with my prediction, but with LVG who knows, maybe Young for Shaw.

Think that will be the line up, although I'd happily see Falcao dropped.

Would love to see something with herrera in midfield behind Mata behind falcao. I think good service is key to falcao. Young playing left wing and di maria on the right in a 4231. A man can dream!

Is this some kind of inane joke? Or do you just struggle to read for comprehension?

There were a serious of posts based on the massive strawman that criticism of LVG also somehow means LVG was the worst coach in the world who never played good football and didn't like to play good football. Except that nobody had said that, and Kryogens original point was a reply to something nobody had said.

I learned something tonight, boards.ie just keeps giving and giving. Louis Van Gaal likes his teams to play dour football, it is his way apparently.
Ffs kry. Get with the times. Lvg is the worst manager in the world
Is relegation still mathematically possible? Because I think United will get relegated because LvG is the worst manager ever.

Kryogen's post was like something he really wanted to say despite the fact it made no sense in terms of this thread, where people pointing out that we have been performing poorly does not actually equal people saying LVG doesn't like good football.

And now Keane comes in with the usual chip on his shoulder to accuse me of a strawman. I really would prefer he figure out the ignore button, but I suspect I hope for too much.

If Falcao doesn't start today he can forget about it.

It really is a strange one. If we were performing, going for a title or a European cup then maybe valid criticisms could be termed curmudgeonly. But we aren't, by any objective measure we are well below where Manchester United should be. Considering our advantages we should never be even close to falling out of the top three yet here we are, unsure about a Sunderland game and whether or not we can compete with Southampton.

And some people think there shouldn't be criticism?

Kryogen was talking about Eagle Eye's post where he said dour football is LVG's way.

Even when Falcao gets good service , he still messed up . - Can't see that changing today

You may have missed the post where it was said that dour football was Van Gaals way if you are under the impression my post is from out of nowhere.

If the post was a direct response to somebody not quoted then I apologise, but I still believe that series of posts had so much straw that the thread was a fire risk.
