I am unable to set it to Bridge mode either, have tried various times, but no luck. It always just restarts in Routing mode.
I've connected a better router that can do dual band, but I can't seem to get ipv6 to work at all for some reason.

    Why would you want ipv6?

Ipv6 needs to be enabled by UPC remotely, you can't do it yourself.

Oh, I didn't express myself properly, I don't want ipv6, I called UPC on 1908 but they refused to give me an ipv4 address.
I can't get ipv6 working properly on my PC, says I have internet connectivity for ipv4, but not ipv6 weirdly (having some issues with a few applications, so I had to use pretty annoying workarounds).

I'm pretty annoyed with the Ubee, its wi-fi is pretty unreliable, and it also can't do concurrent dual band for some reason (I'm guessing it might have to do with UPC's Horizon Wi-Free?). Crashed every time I connected more than 1 device on the wi-fi, so I just bought a new router (TP-Link Archer C5, which has been pretty good so far).
I'd like to set the Ubee in bridge mode, but sadly doesn't seem to be possible. Managed to get the Archer C5's set as DMZ on the Ubee, so I guess that's the best I can do. I'm not sure why they couldn't just put an "Advanced" option on the Ubee or in My UPC, to give some users more settings to tinker with.

Just moved to Dublin a few weeks ago, loving it so far, but the internet situation here is appalling.

I also some issues with ipv6.

Call UPC or even better send a private message to one of UPC reps on their forum and explain that some applications and programs don't work with ipv6 and your internet is useless. They should fix it for you.

As for bridge mode, I haven't tried it yet.

I called and the person there tried to push some premium tech support on me, but also denied all of my requests (ipv4 or bridge mode), I made a post in the UPC forum here, I'm still hopeful.

I'm curious if they'd get upset if I just get a new cable modem and just clone my Ubee's MAC and Serial number...

I'd just like to thank the people participating in this thread, couldn't have got my router sorted without reading through this.

So, AndreiD, I was in the same situation, I rang up tech support, went through the menus, got to a human and told them my model router and that I was trying to get through to the "Premium PC Support" line, but it always rang out, anyway, the guy on regular tech support told me the Ubee EVW3226 is default as IPv6 and could not be switched.

So after that I rang the Premium PC support thing, a fellow answered and asked what the issue was, I plainly told him that my router is set up to use IPv6 and I need it to be switched over to IPv4, he said "ok", 3 seconds later he added "Right I've switched you over just there".

Then he instructed me to hit the reset button on the modem's rear, I also asked would I have access to port forwarding in the router menu now, he said yes.

    Lo and behold - http://tinyurl.com/nomgmgrnomgmgrScreenshot%202015-02-21%2017.22.18.pngScreenshot%202015-02-21%2017.22.18.png?dl=0

    I hope this helps.

Oh, I see, so you have to call the expensive line for them to do anything, that doesn't sit well with me for some reason.

Rang UPC yesterday about issues i am having. They ran a test and that there is some issue with the modem and have arranged for a technican to visit next week.

Is there any way to enable port forwarding on this router or have a workaround for getting a port open?

I'm thinking of just canceling and switching to a different provider, UPC has been awful so far.

UPC has a support forum right here on boards and if you PM them, they will switch you over to IPv4 straight away at zero cost.

Other posters have mentioned this multiple times, I'm not sure why you have ignored this advice?

The reason you are having no luck with phone support is because like all ISP's when you call phone support, you first reach 1st level support and like all ISP's these days they probably don't even work for UPC. They are likely work for a third party contracting firm and are probably minimum wage workers reading off a script. Anything beyond simple requests is beyond their ability, that is why they were telling you to call 2nd level support.

This is why it is best to ignore phone support completely and simply directly contact the support reps here on boards. Social media support reps for any company are normally more experienced and higher level support staff.

I didn't ignore them, I posted in the UPC forum, but just a few moments ago someone from support replied to the email I sent a few days ago and they pretty much solved all of my issues, I am actually quite impressed since my first interaction with them wasn't as great.

Thanks for the tips @bk, much appreciated.

And I agree, I know a lot of people in tech support get paid quite poorly and have to work hard (used to do it at university), so I wasn't rude or abrasive with them, most of my anger lied towards the company, UPC, with whom I had better interaction in my native country.

Using a powerline and it's a constant 100Mbps (it's a 500Mbps plug) Is there a default setting that is throttling this or is it my pc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 AndreiD

Powerline is dependent on the quality of the electric wiring and layout in your house, I have a set that I used at my old house, but at my new one I'm barely getting 30-40 Mbps.
Though since you say you're getting 99Mbps, it sounds like your adapters have only 100 Mbps ethernet ports. The 500 Mbps rating is only between the adapters (if you have the TP-Link AV500).
Check your ethernet connection speed on your PC, or check the specs of the adapter kit, it should say if it's a 10/100 or 10/100/1000 ethernet port.

It's a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, google says it's 10/100/1000

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 AndreiD

Can you specify the model number of your powerline adapter kit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,067 ✭✭✭✭ShaneU

    TL-PA4030

TP-Link website says they only have 10/100 Mbps ethernet ports, so that's your bottleneck.
You might want to return them and get the ones with the Gigabit Ethernet ports, the TL-PA6010 or TL-PA8010. (That is if the 100 Mbps speed isn't that much of a bother)

Jaysus you're right, then why does it say up to 500mbps on the box? feel like I've been ripped off

Supposedly 500 Mbps is the link speed between the powerline adapters, they should have stated more clearly that the Ethernet link is only 100 Mbps.
If you bought them recently, you can still probably return them!

Its the theoretical maximum switching speed.

Most manufacturers don't bother putting 1 gig interfaces onto them because the plugs will rarely scale past 100Mbps.

Im in the same boat, got them in October and now pricing someone to run the proper cable and eventually chance my arm and bring them back to Argos.

So what exactly must I do to connect a router to this modem? I can't access bridge mode?

Hi all, got the upgrade to 240mb and ubee EVW3226 but then discovered than my laptop is only 10/100 so maxing out at 40mb when connected by ethernet cable.

Im wondering how i can upgrade my laptop.
I use it in a different room to my modem/router so a usb ethernet port adapter wouldn't be ideal. My laptop (lenovo g510) doesn't have an expresscard slot so would something like this work or what are my options?

    Thanks
in case anyone was in same scenario as me i got the TP Link Archer C9 and the TP Link T4U.
Tested over wifi while sitting beside router both C9 and T4U set to dual band got me 243mbs:

Recently got this router.I've noticed my WiFi stops working every couple of days and I have to reset the router.my computer says WiFi is connected but can't load up any pages.
I've never had this issue on my previous Cisco.

Login to modem and change the wifi channel to higher number like , 13etc and see if that helps.

Yeah so I've upgraded to the 240Mb limitless Broadband and received this router yesterday. Set it up last night and was disappointed to only see speeds of 30mb down using a cable, and oddly 50Mb down using wireless. Uploads speeds remain at 22Mb using either cable or wifi.

I've since read this thread and have seen the issue with the router and a cabled connection although on the phone to UPC earlier they reassured me that this issue had been resolved. Either way my laptop is 2 years old and I think the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller may not be up to it ?

UPC have scheduled a technician to call tomorrow as they think its a "cabling issue". I've used a couple of different network cables from the router/modem to the laptop, and I've also used a couple of different coax cables from the UPC box to the router/modem - all speedtest results remain the same.
Unless it's the cable coming into the house ?

I've tried a speed test on my Android phone too just to make sure it's not the wireless card in the laptop - getting around 50Mb down there too. I just seem to be throttled at that speed. UPC also say that my profile has been updated - although curiously when I log onto myupc - it still says that I'm on fiber power broadband 30Mb.

This is more than likely an issue with this Ubee box, right ?

Did you check your network card? Sounds like what I had, laptop was about the same age but only had 10/100 not 10/100/1000
