It's probably just me but I've always thought that the Wren's Latin name was a very poor fit for such a tiny bird..I reckon it sounds more suitable for a larger more aggressive bird like, say, a hooded crow or a Raven..:)

I always thought it a very apt name as it comes from the Greek word "troglodytes" (being "trogle" a hole, and "dyein" to creep) giving us "cave-dweller", and refers to the wren's habit of disappearing into crevices and crevices to hunt or roost. For that reason I recall the scientific name for a wren much better than many other birds.

I seen a little egret on the way to Dublin today just in a field such a beautiful bird and its a pity I forgot my camera.

Absolutely ! And while I'm here the only other scientific name I can remember is that for Magpie, 'Pica Pica' and that's because that's what friends in Kinsale named their house because of the large numbers of Magpies in the area..

Lucan Demesne/St Catherine’s Park is a great amenity area

As well as all the playing fields – they have recently introduced loads of exercise equipment for adults and children throughout the complex

    These include

    Tai Chi Spinners
    Shoulder Builder
    Chest Press
    Leg Press
    and
    Seated Puller

But I was really impressed today with their latest addition

    The ‘Robin Slide’

Call me a copycat but I saw a photo here lately ( Splish or Srameen I think) with an apple in a tree and a blackcap beside it- so I put a couple of pieces of appple on the branches of the hedge ( Lidl were selling 6 granny smiths for 49cents!).

    This evening -

Just looking at the last couple of photos I took last night of the Blackcap as the sun faded in the garden... it has no dazzling colours or jumpout features(well!)- but what a really beautiful little bird it is!

Interesting to look at the cormorant's ' outer protection' - it's like a batsuit!

    EDIT

Hope it's ok if I just add this last one also -
