I only saw last 32 minutes due to work, but what I saw was very pleasing bar Valencia.

We looked well organised, composed and took the chances and looked like we could create more.

Can't read those match threads any more, more non United fans posting in them than actual. To here from now on

Maybe we need two threads for some matches actual football discussion and the banter thread and let people run riot in the banter thread cause there are fans off every team that want to cause trouble.

Or maybe a banter super thread. Mods?

Match threads get increasingly hard to read

Do people suppose thats the end of Mata now? I would have chosen him to come for Falcao... but credit to young, the game changed when he came on.

He is interfering with play because the ball comes directly towards him. He doesn't stand still, he moves his body out of the way to make sure he doesn't touch the ball. His presence there affects the keepers decision making. He couldn't be there in an onside position and so he is interfering with play. If he wasn't in an offside position in the line of the shot. The keeper would have easily saved it.

    It was offside IMO.

    2 + 4 = 15 IMO

Ah ya I know that but he hasn't featured in the last 3 or 4 games now. I'd be surprised to see him start next weekend or make an appearance.

I wouldn't. I think it would be majorly clutching at straws.

I always try to think about decisions that way but I can't make my mind up on this one. He is probably interfering with play, but it's not clear cut and a difficult decision for the lino/ref.

You saw the best part of the game. ;) First half was pretty terrible for the most part. Though probably not as bad as Burnley.

In fairness to falcao he needs service and himself and rooney were not given any.

I'm actually enjoying winning games this way. I love how it grinds people's gears.

It really takes the edge off the crapness.

People have been banging on about us not winning games in the 90th minute we have done in sooner in the last two games there are positives to be seen from games we have played most recently and if a few passes had been better in the first half it would have been more comfortable.

From what ive seen im guessing LVG is a defensive manager but his form of defense is ball retention and to weardown the opposition. Both times we have conceeded in the last two games we seemed to step up a gear.

Is that down to the opposition being tired chasing us or us being better when we play a higher tempo.

I think there has been lots of positives of late but overall still no structure to how we are playing.

LVGs changes when we have been behind have brought more positives then negatives if only he could start matches like that we'd all be happy i guess..

PS I started into the vodka at half time :p

    Would not argue there :)

Still even if it was lower division we looked very solid from what I saw.

Whatever about the way we are playing I'm liking how we don't seem to panic when we go goal down.

Completely agreed. That seemed to happen so much last year and it was the worst part of all the bad parts of last year.

Yeah I said it in the match thread thread when they scored.

I think he likes to keeps possession and play the game slowly. It pisses off fans but I don't think he has the defence to go so attacking.

It gets results and that's the main thing, I don't think he cares if he pisses off a few fans.
1 loss in 19 playing like we do is sorta impressive. He has a great nack of not losing which is good.

Feel sorry for falcao getting zero chances he is working hard but we are creating nothing for him. Herrera played well tonight. Martin keown is a terrible commentator he still hates utd and Phil Neville was pathetic in the studio trying to say Rooney didn't dive

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,579 ✭✭✭MythicalMadMan

And onto Herrea he is a battler, in the first half while not being at his best still got in some good interceptions and tackles, his goal he fought for it harder than most of our players would have he made that goal with strenght and will. others would have lost it or have fallen over.

he seems to suit or adapted to the english game more game time needed IMO.

Well I think he was interfering with play and it is open to interpretation, so "it doesn't matter what your opinion is. You're wrong." Is a moot point.

Just cause a player distracts a goalie doesnt make him off side if Rooney is at the corner flag stripping off and humping the mascot and the goalie gets distracted and lets in a goal he aint offside.

There goalie made a mistake mainly cause he has spent his whole life playing a different rule but rooney adapted to this new rule by making sure 100% he was interfering the goalie didnt.

Eh what's with all the Valencia hate? He played very well I thought, bar 1 poor pass across our defense.

Just no he has been caught in no mans land keeping players onside recently, not his fault but he doesnt keep the defensive line well and as for an attacking threat, its only when he has no other option he puts it in the box, shaw offered so much more in the ways of runs and crossing (most bad) ive no idea why rafael aint starting cause imo he is better both defensively and offensively compared to valencia

What else am I going to start off with but Herrera?! Before I get carried away, it was only Preston vs Megastars United, I'll say it was a massive night for the Spaniard. He has been virtually rotting on the bench but once called upon in an important game, provides us with a solid performance, a vital goal, and a clever switch of play where he turned the ball around a Preston player and played it out the far-side to Valencia, who then set-up Fellaini's goal. Herrera's goal celebration and the look on his face said it all, very important night for him never mind any public "it's great to be able to score for the team" soundbites.

I started the day off here thinking the worst of his future at the club, and it still maybe in the balance despite a good 90 minutes tonight, and I thought there would be more chance of old Giggsy getting named in the starting line-up tonight than him. When I read that he was in the team line-up, I really had to do a double take. Anyway, great shift from him tonight.

Ashley Young, great to have him back and to see that his spell on the injury list hasn't so far knocked the form out of him. Would have to be a definite starter for Swansea on Saturday (Haha, which by the way is "United's only European game of the season" according to piss-taking memes from the start of the season!)

Rooney, complete dive. I won't lie, it doesn't affect me, I didn't see it first time around in real-time and genuinely thought he got chopped down. The horses of happiness had already left the stable by the time I realised it was a dive and there was no calling them back. LOL at some calling out Roy Hodgson and Phil Neville for not going to town on him, you know Rooney the England captain weeks before some Euro qualifiers. In that case though, there's an argument for Hodgson and Neville not being there as pundits at all, but not an argument for here.

Other than that, it wasn't the worst reintroduction to his striker position, he made a few nice runs. Have to think though that P.L. defenders would have tracked those runs easier. The commentators on BBC were speaking as if Rooney was Usain Bolt. I thought the common consensus was that he had lost a yard in recent years? Would like to see more of him as striker, even lone striker in a 4-5-1 vs Swansea on Saturday, but he did end up back in CM by the end of tonight's game so who knows.

Falcao; Sad to say that bar something out of this world for the remaining games, it is not going to work out.

The manager: good starting line-up, unimpressive first half, great 2nd half tweak. Credit to him and the team equally, that is another positive result and yet another game where we have not conceded more than one goal. That is somewhere around 20 games right now?

Not the worst night to watch United, very curious to see more.

Also, in the minute I lost control upon seeing Herrera on the teamsheet tonight, I flew over to Boylesports at some point during the blackout, thankfully it didn't turn out the worst...

Think people are going a bit ott on Herrera, was very sloppy in possession on numerous occasions and gets brushed off the ball very easily. Still think he should be starting though but don't think he is the long term answer. LVG obviously doesn't fancy him either. Can't see Falcao staying either seemed really pissed off coming off, we are probably gonna need two strikers this summer, who do ye think we should be looking at? Would love us to move for lacazette.

Fellaini time and time again has been fantastic when played off the striker. He has shown more goal threat than any of the strikers this season.
