So after some research and trial and error i think i have this sussed.

Simple layout for now but interested in what the rest of you came up with.
Pics and videos are taken from Emumovies.

    OS : Windows 7 (64-bit, 2GB Ram)
    Frontend : Mala
    Emulators : Mame (so far)

Autostarts on AC power, Couldnt hide the BIOS screen, but windows startup screen is hidden.
Autostarts Mala, shuts down the PC when you exit Mala.

Still have to connect to Arcade monitor and get joysticks and buttons setup.

Show me your frontend (dirty laugh).

Probably better to show quick vids of the boot and frontend so people get an idea as to what its like.

    What you think?

Maybe so. I might wait until i get mine fully setup in the cab. Just the front end design i was initially interested in.

Looks a bit like MGalaxy default layout.

Looks a bit like MGalaxy default layout.

    Its RetroRGB layout.
A video from boot is 1:30 of black screen. Will do a frontend one in a min.

    3MB :O

Not gonna win any Oscars with that one.

I just have a crappy Hyperspin front end.
I think I preferred my Mala front end on the Ramvik Ikeacab.
I was only teasing about the front end mate.
I'm sure it does exactly what it's supposed to.

    Any pics of the frontend?
Mala seemed easier to configure for me.

Not any more in afraid but its pretty good, though plain.
It's easy to configure in both vertical and horizontal and I was very happy with it back in the day.

Here’s a quick vid of some of my current Hyperspin setup on the Egret 3. Obviously I normally skip the tacky intro video :)
Few of the usual distortions from the camera angle and the fact it’s a CRT, you don’t see them in person.

My Hyperspin config is flashy, shiny and tacky, and that’s how I like it(for now). I like the frontend to be an experience, but if I want serious gameplay I go the real deal and pop in a PCB.

    Thats what im talking about.
Looks fantastic. Really like when you change to a type the corresponding sound plays.

Did you configure that from scratch?
What sort of disk space are we talking?

    Downloaded GameEx last night.
Seems highly customisable also with great features. Gonnna give that a go then maybe Hyperspin.

Most of the themes are from the Hyperspin ftp and the preview movies are from emumovies. I did a lot of under the hood stuff to boost performance and do a few bits in the background for some emulators.
Lots of work to get it running just the way i like but it's a bit easier these days with hyperlaunch to config the emulators.
And then there is the many hours of theme creation and modifying other peoples themes.

My full hyperspin setup is now about 4-4.5TB i think. But that includes a load of disc images that take up a massive amount of space.

The OS, frontend, artwork/preview vids, MAME and most of the main non cd image based roms run from an internal 1TB SSD for speed and performance. Everything else sits on a 4TB external USB 3 drive.

    Basic Specs:
    Intel i7-2600K @3.8GHz
    16GB DDR3 RAM
    Win7 64bit
1GB Sapphire HD6670 GDDR5 Low Profile graphics card (very good low profile card)
    Samsung 2.5-Inch 1 TB 850 EVO

There isnt an emote that does a big enough jaw drop for those stats.

Im off to change my Mala title from "Ed's Arcade" to "The poo on Steve's shoe".

    Seriously though, great work.

The worst thing about all these frontends is that you just cant copy a working config. Everyones is different, has little tweaks and registry entries. Then drivers etc.
