I'd drop falcao and play mata just behind Rooney in that line up

yea good option to have and I would be happy to see that as well.

When ye say 4th, do ye mean 4th/3rd or have ye resigned 3rd?

I would be slightly disappointed with 4th

you really need to be aiming for top 3 at this stage even 2nd spot, don't want to be playing an early tricky European qualifier next year away in turkey or somewhere

I mean 4th. We are playing turgid football but not really losing so scraping through to the CL would be about all our play deserves thus far.

The games coming up after the next 3 are as tough as it gets so I don't hold out much hope of getting many points on the board there.

If even 2 or 3 of our top players were to hit some form then 3rd is there for the taking but, as it stands, I would accept 4th, a decent cup run and some major surgery to our team in the summer.

I would be grand with 4th too but not writing off third. Seems the most get table.

2nd isn't that far off either. 5 points. If we beat man city then it's 2, then I'll want 2nd. Big if though.

Can't really say we were really lucky Liverpool were poor back then when we were unlucky in the other games - had a ton of chances against Spurs to win the game and were in relative control against City before Smalling got himself sent off.

Spurs first half is Van Gaal's Leverkusen best we've played all season but we didn't score and we were awful in the second half if I remember correctly, City you have a point

The manager needs major surgery. Iv lost faith in lvg . "Tactical genius" please. You only have to view the stats to see we are as blunt as a hammer and with a strikeforce thqt was deemed an "embarrassment of riches " at the start of the season.

4th highest scorers in the league
    3rd best defence
    2nd best home record
    3rd least amounts of defeats
    1 defeat in 18

    Yeah, awful stats alright.

Chances created per game from December 26th is rough reading I'd imagine...(havn't actually seen them mind you)

If he doesn't get CL football after that level of spending and some of the players available to him, his position will become precarious. As it stands we are only 5 points behind last year's champions. 3rd was around where I expected at the start of the season.

I'll be reserving judgement until the end of the season. One thing we can all agree on is that we are not playing well.

Only positive stats are allowed from now on.

It's literally the only way to battle against the hyperbole.

I really can't see LVG staying In the job if we don't get champions League football next season. I also would be slow giving him money given how poor last summers transfers turned out.

if we do qualify for champions league next season, we wont be going in as top seeds as the format has now changed, so we could potentially be in a group with Real Madrid, Roma, ajax and ourselves.

Honest question, do ye think van gaal is the man to lead us against those teams considering his style of play?

Lets just hope we can get top 4 first and then we worry about group.

yea just thinking down the line, if we do get top 4 but the standard of football doesn't get better would you be happy to keep the current manager?

i would love it after every game the opposing manager Trolled LVG and made up a negative trait about the UTD team. I think the weekly LVG refute presentation would be pure ratings.
    I can get them started
    Long Ball Utd
    Hacker UTD
    Hatcher utd
    Dainty walk utd

    Yes.

Last season, when it was clear Moyes wasn't working and we were going to miss the top 4, a lot of people gave out about the idea of swapping a manager so quickly; that they didn't want to become like other clubs who swap managers out every year just because they barely missed set targets. And the counter argument was that Moyes was missing easy enough goals which had been reduced time and time again (title challenge, no the top of the pack after the top 2, no top 4, no top 5, no top 6 but with nice football, etc). And that if a manager came in and achieved a goal, they should keep their job; that it wouldn't be a spoiled attitude of changing the manager over and over cause there wasn't instant success.

So at the start of the year, the general consensus was that Top 4 was the goal for this year. And as of this moment, LVG is achieving that. And in your hypothetical, you're asking if we should sack him if he achieves the goal everyone (or at least the majority) would have been happy with. Of course he should keep his job.

If he gets us back into Europe, with the defense problems, with the injury problems and with the poor form, then I'd say of course he keeps going. It would be the height of hypocrisy, after years of poking fun at other clubs, if a manager achieves a goal and we turf him out anyway.

Speaking of chance creation - anyone know where a man could find a list of chances created against us?

Even if Rooney played the pass there is no way Falcao would have reached it before defenders. He runs slower than Berba. It's just a waste of effort to even think about through balls with Falcao and RVP as strikers.

There was a point in the 1st half yesterday when Burnley had a corner and Di Maria broke with the ball and was fouled, Falcao took off after him and I was shocked with the speed he had.

You honestly must be mixing them up because Evans ran through defense and midfield at least 2 times I can remember, once even continuing to the box for an attempted header. Also played some fantastic long balls(with his weaker foot) out to Di Maria on the right.

Honestly don't see why Smalling can get so much slack. I did think the defense as a whole were playing too deep and were put under undue pressure because of it. Evans played more like he does on the left side of a back 3 which was annoying but understandable given that's where he's played most this season. I think him on the right and Rojo on the left which hasn't really been tried is the way to go. Maybe playing a player on his strongest side will bring better performances in the shock of the season.

I think Evans has been shunted around more than the other 2 due to being a far better footballer than them and it's hindered him.

That was Smalling! I think you've actually confused them. I remember it because Smalling was on a hat trick at that stage. I found the play also, it begins 75 mins and 16 seconds into the match. Here's a link to the match. 24 mins 5 seconds into the 2nd half video. Want to know what you think.

There was one by Evans in the first half. Towards the end of the first half - he played a one two with Di Maria (I think) and bombed into the box for the cross but it didn't reach him.
