Which is best wooden board or plastic

    Hi all,

    I am having a serious problem with beautiful crafted wooden chopping board and stylish plastic chopping board. I want this to help my wife.

    I just shop for my new home. I bought approximate all the things by my interest but it is little difficult to choose between two. One of my friend told me that it is very difficult to clean wooden board but I like to buy it.

    When I went to find information about on the web, I look same problem, there are so many confusion on the web. On some pages I found wooden are best and some are suggesting wooden are not. I don't really understand why so many people have problems on the web to choose between. So what you like to suggest me and why?.

    I have found both types to be OK but I think that wooden ones cause less damage to a knife as it needs less sharpening.
    Wooden boards do need a bit more care in that they need to be rubbed in olive oil from time to time to retain the seal on them.

    Otherwise the choice is yours.

    For me, Its really function over fashion and whatever gets the job done in the quickest, easiest and most hygenic way possible.
    I use only plastic for anything other than bread, and they go into the dishwasher. I buy different sizes and colours, depending on my mood:)

    I see u are in India so don't know wher you could look :)

    Bought a good thick end grain wooden board recently and wish I had purchased one a long time ago. All the plastic boards I ever had were flimsy and warped easily and ended up looking filthy in no time. You do have to look after a wooden board by oiling it every couple of weeks which leaves the board looking new again. I would not suggest using Olive oil as it can and does go rancid very easily and will taint your board. Invest in a bottle of Tung oil and good quality board and you won't be disappointed.
