    Hi internet,

I am currently in 2nd year of a biology level 7 degree. I am thinking of applying to transfer to TCD into 3rd year of the Immunology degree however, I am wondering whether or not I could manage the workload in TCD if I got in. Don't get me wrong, my degree is tough going and I have lab reports, assignments etc, its just moving from an IT to TCD is a big jump.

So I suppose my question is what is the work load like in the Immunology or in the science degrees in general? I am also a mature student so I don't want to spend anymore time in a degree that isn't really what I want to be doing. Is there good support available in TCD?

Also, the deadline for the application I think is the 1st of Feb this year if I want to start in Sept 2015 so if someone could help me make a decision that would be great...or better yet make it for me haha :)

    Thanks for reading...

    A bio nerd :D

I don't think it's possible to transfer from a level 7 course. The transfer page on the TCD website says you must be transferring from a similar honours degree level course (level 8), or have completed an ordinary degree (level 7) to be considered for transfer.
In addition to that, I don't think you're able to transfer directly into immunology. Immunology in TCD follows on from the General Science course, where science students sit their annual exams at the end of 2nd year and then based on their results are matriculated into their chosen specialities (like the CAO).

    Hi there

My understanding from reading the advanced entry requirements section on the immunology course page is, you can transfer after second or a subsequent year into the second or subsequent year of the degree. Provided that you meet the standards with your grades etc.

It doesn't say you have to be in an honors degree course from what I read, just a similar degree..I take from "similar degree" a science degree, for example you couldn't transfer from say second year business degree to the science degree.

I will call TCD maybe during the week and see exactly what they mean by similar degree.

    Thanks for your help :)

I've never heard of anyone transfer from a Level 7 course to a Level 8 course (aside from internal transfers in DIT).

Also, having gone through the Science general entry system myself, I've also never heard of anyone from another college transfer into one of the specialisations directly, most end up transferring into first or second year. TCD make it difficult for even internal students to transfer into Science courses after second year (and these people had 50 credits of shared modules with the course they wanted to transfer into).

Students who have successfully completed one or more years in a similar, full-time, course at degree level or who have completed a recognised diploma or an ordinary degree in a related discipline to a sufficiently high standard may apply for advanced entry to Trinity College.
A Level 7 course is an ordinary degree.

The advanced application link on that page indicates it's for General Science, which I'd imagine would allow a qualified applicant to enter into 2nd year of the Science degree and then they'd have to follow the matriculation process to the specialised disciplines at the annual exams in 2nd year that all TCD science students must do.
