    Hi guys, thinking of setting up a business from home. I'll have customers collecting stock etc and wanted to get an idea on what insurance is needed and rough idea on prices. Thanks

    Firstly, you will need to notify your insurers that the house is no longer used solely for domestic purposes. This doesn't automatically give cover for your business, it just allows them amend your existing cover with certain exclusions

    You will need public liability and if you have employees there, employers liability. You will also need to cover your stock for fire & theft.

    If you are using a former domestic outbuilding for the business, the structure will require commercial cover. It is the use, not the design of a building which determines whether it is commercial or private. However, your house insurer may be prepared to accept the additional risk, depending on the activity

    As for cost, that depends on the activity and values and a good broker will offer you a free quotation
