Talking about history and ex managers and past glories.

How far we have come indeed.

in all fairness, we have spent 150m in the summer, £150,000,000 that is on top of the 37m we spent on Mata AND the 28m spent on fellaini.

there is actually zero excuse for us not to be challenging for the title and we not even in Europe this season and knocked out of the first round of cup

Spending loads of money is not a great trait when it is spent poorly.

Of all that money spent, little of it looks to have been spent well.

Mata - Moyes had no idea how to use him and couldn't get the best out of him. I think LVG will be similar when we havea fully fit squad.
Fellaini - was terrible last season, contributing well this season, not worth the money paid though.
Herrera, an utter waste of money given LVG has no interest in playing him.
Blind and Rojo - good signings and decent prices given their use and performances so far.
Di Maria - being misused and not doing much for LVG at the moment.
Falcao - fitness and a United side that struggled to pass the ball past Yeovil, not done much, not all his fault (imo).

We'd have been better off buying a top CM or CB last summer instead of Mata.
We needed another top CB in the summer, not Falcao (imo).
We needed a right back, and bought noone.

Spending 200million - don't care, we still left our squad short of quality in defence and unbalanced up top. poorly spent, imo.

....but the least we are expecting is 4th, and we are in 4th? 1/2 points behind Southampton in third.

look at the bigger picture, we are 12 points off Chelsea in January

no surprise we got no offers for Anderson. He is crap - and out of contract in the summer. anyone who does want him will just wait to get him for free then.

It would make sense to just let him go for free now though and get him off the wage bill for the next six months. Which suggests that nobody wants him, even for free.

With a poor defence that has still been missing most of the players for a lot of the season. At one point our defence was Valencia, McNair, One senior guy, Blacket, Young.

We need better defenders, sure, had our ones been fit for a decent chunk we may be better off too.

he will still get his wages for the next 6 months though even if he is gone...

Can't just let him go for free - he is under contract. We would have to pay his contact up, so it would represent no saving at all. Would just get him away from the training ground, where he is a popular figure (amongst staff and players)

Why would United be paying him if another club signed him?

All of the above him been black points on LVG, he is the manager and has managed players and transfers poorly

Well, nobody wants him for free on his current wages and I doubt he's willing to take a pay cut. He'll pick up a club no problem at the end of the season on substantially less money.

Of course you can let him go for free?

"Hi <insert club here>, would you like Anderson?"

    "How much?"

    "Zero pounds please."

    "Grand."

because the OP said would we be better off not just letting him go now, and if you do, he will still receive his monthly wage as he is contracted for another 6 months in the same way Roy Keane was getting a monthly wage with united when he was playing with celtic, until his united contract was finished.

yea what normally happens is though they just pay as normal until the contract is over. they never give lump sum pay offs

Right now Anderson is un signable. He has a reputation for being unfit, overweight or injured. 3 of the worst traits that a professional footballer can have. He would also be demanding a high salary! Not sure how he will ever sign for another football team. Maybe he could get a pay to play contract. My guess would be that he will end up back in Brazil where he is still highly regarded.

Anderson is going to pick up 2m by just training at united for the next 6 months, why would he join another club and only make 1m or less in the same time frame?!

Why don't you go ask him?

Yes that's called a contract. While they might not mean a lot in football, tey mean a bit in cases like this .

Would you move for less money?

Apart from loads of players leaving, loads of players coming in, a new manager, most of the new signings being injured for most of the season so far.

It doesnt really matter how much you have spent. That is just looking at it very simplistically. Most of the players we over paid for and even with that investment, looking at the squad at the start of the season, there was little if any hope of Utd challenging for the title this season.

I actually think I predicted we would finish 5th because I thought we needed a top centre back signed at least.

Things could have gone better, the 3/5 at the back is a pain and lets hope it changes and Van Gaal has made some big selection errors during the season but ffs lets be realistic about what we can expect in the short term.

Goodman. If in doubt revert to fat jokes.

That's not a kebab shop by the way. I can make out some meat and 7up cans?

But carry on with the fat jokes. Just shows you up with for your nonsense.

To be honest Anderson just doesn't look over weight anymore. He has just lost his footballing ability. He was f**king struggling to keep up with MK Dons for gods sake

The problem is that LVG came in with probably as much knowledge as us in here if not less on the team with only a recently retired players opinion to go on.

He had his formation in the WC get rave reviews even though it wasn't great after the group stages but with the hype behind it he decided it was what he wanted to use even though that formation doesn't really work against English teams that pack the middle.

This led to disjointment at all levels that was glossed over for a while due to a good run where it looked like things were coming together, it was 4 at the back for this period.

Now, inexplicably he's switched it back to 5 at the back which hasn't looked good since before the first game and the team don't have the personnel or the experience in it to adapt to it.

The answer? 4-4 fúcking 2 :p (or you know just 4 at the back.)

Anybody ever look up the Goldenboy award? Anderson won it in 2008, the amount of current superstars that have won it, he really looks out of place on the list of previous winners. They majority of the winners have gone on the be True World Class players.

Just shows how much talent he had!
