It's been good fun so far aye.
I know it's been embellished, and no one can ever know what really went on in those meetings represented in the show, but it's mad to think stuff LIKE that happened.

Yeah, and just finished this weeks too.
Found it a bit weird they followed up with a Control-centric episode this week, but at least we did get glimpses of their rampage. Also, the "Is Shaw still alive" story seems a bit weird too, given they spent last week publically saying she was gone. Still, some great moments; Root is brilliant and my love of Amy Acker will never die.

Really will say to anyone who hasn't watched or tried Person of Interest....do so. It's a fantastic show, a weird mix of "Cop show/story of the week" and "High Science Fiction without being overtly Science Fiction" that works on so many levels. The writing is brilliant, the casting is perfect with some fantastic characters and the story arcs are great too.
Yeah I'm not as high on this Shaw angle as others. Carter's death was like a shot in the gut but set a warning level that the main cast is not immune from death (Carter was third from top billing an featured in promo shots for the show). I think they've screwed up with this "is she/isn't she dead" direction.

It is done to write her off as she is pregnant. X-Files and other shows have long done this but teasing it this way doesn't do much for me.

I miss the number-of-the-week procedural element. It seems they have now bitten off so much that they can't go back to stand-alone episodes without it seeming too out of place.

Remember hearing someone (Tom Mankiewicz maybe) say that Superman shouldn't get involved in big political issues, war and all that as it just gets messy and takes the focus away from the esscence of the story. I feel like PoI has crossed that rubicon now and they're into the big game rather than doing what Finch set out in ep01 which was deal with the irrelevant numbers.

Which version of The Office do you guys prefer? I'm just watching an episode of the U.S one here.

I love both but I don't think the UK version can ever be beaten. The U.S. version goes into such a different direction after the first season it's almost hard to compare.

The best thing about the U.S. Version is how the secondary characters got so much airtime they really made the show.

one the US version got passed the 2nd season it cam into it's own - their hands seemed a bit tied trying to recreate the UK one (even down to the same jokes which just didnt work) but once they found their feet, it became such a good show in its own right. Lough is right - it seems a bit unfair to try and compare as, regardless of the title, they really are 2 different shows.

US Office is one of the few British to US shows that actually worked. I still have nightmares about that IT Crowd pilot.

    Always Sunny is back

Was watching Agent Carter earlier - not too many shows like that with a female lead but I think this one has a lot of potential and once again Marvel are doing a good job.

I don't think the US IT Crowd pilot was that much worse than most popular US sitcoms at present. I'd have it down that same low level as Modern Family, New Girl, 2 Broke Girls etc. The woman in the original IT Crowd is so horrible.

Can ye recommend some non-wrestling podcasts to me? Anything really, pop culture, politics NPR-style stories.

Stuff you should know: Fun show about two guys who talk about a wide range on interesting topics. Could be about aliens one week to Jim Henson.

Comedy Bang Bang: Scott Aukerman hosts a show with usually a celebrity guest from comedy/tv and a character interrupts. Pick a guest you like and start from there.

Monday Morning Podcast: Comedian Bill Burr goes mental. US Sports at the start that you can skip if you don't care like me.

The two are impossible to compare, I do realise. I would find it hard to choose a favourite.

I like them both but for entirely different reasons.

I guess that they want to leave the door open if she wants a return. I guess they also need to be different than when Carter died; a wounded John on a rampage while a sociopath helped him (Elias/Root). The "Is she dead" angle might be to differentiate? Ah, it's still amazing and I adore the show.

Lego Movie not even being up for "Best Animiated" is why I hate the Oscars. A joke really....

That's the biggest load of BS tbh. Lego Movie is fantastic, deserved at least a nomination.

It has got the nod for "Best Song" which it should win easily. But apparently too much of it
was live action to be considered eligible for Live Animation Award.

I do. The humour in them are so different but both are so good.

Recently saw two films which I'd give a strong recommendation for - The Rover and Predestination.

Rover is Guy Pearce in a Mad Max type of story in which his car is stolen by bandits and he begins a vendetta to find them and recover his car. Bleak but good.

Predestination has Ethan Hawke in time travel film where he is a pre-crime cop of sorts sent back to the past to stop baddies but his last mission unfolds in a dramatic manner. It's more of a dialogue heavy film than a stunts n' action type.

The former is on certain Netflix regions, the latter was released in Australia last year.

Has anyone heard anything about the 12 Monkeys TV series that has debuted on SyFy? It's due to debut on this side of the Atlantic next month.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,051 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Watched the first episode with the second sitting ready to watch. Was actually pretty good. And didn't seem like a SyFy series, if that makes sense. Just seems more professional.
I can't remember the movie so I'm not comparing to it

Don't know if anyone here watches Workaholics but the most recent episode (aired stateside yesterday) was a wrestling themed one called "Front Yard Wrestling" and had a big cameo from Ben Stiller. The episode like the show can be hit and miss sometimes but the end of it was good fun for a wrestling fan.

Taken 3: Really simple of a story, but (refreshing for a Hollywood film) no one acts like a ****ing idiot. Whitiker's character is great.

Meanwhile, Supergirl has cast Melissa Benoist as it's lead, so guessing we'll see her popping up in Arrow soon :P

EDIT: Also, just finished my yearly run through of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Hate the way it was cancelled after one series. ****ing awesome show :(

Yeah thought Taken 3 was okay. Better than 2.

Think they said there wouldn't be a Supergirl/Arrow/Flash crossover. Though think they just meant all 3 at the same time. Wonder how it'll go

As for Studio 60, I always remember the line about "illiterate television" in reference to Reality tv. Always assumed that's why it was cancelled. Was the first Sorkin show I watched. Liked it but felt its biggest weakness was the fact the sketches weren't funny.
