So you slag me off even though I have listed points why fergie was a genius, yet you are asked and you just say "no"

    Great argument

I couldn't give a toss what you think of my argument. Even had I made one.

I simply pointed out that you hadn't answered the OP's question. Listing Fergies trophies does not explain why or how he won them.

i explained all the different formations he used, players he used, false no9, different corner routines, movement in opposition box... what else do you want?! you dont just turn up and win trophies

maybe Valdes was a way to show DDG and agent that they won't be completely held to ransom

Or maybe I need to go to conspiracy theories

I don't think anyone's under any illusions that DDG isn't already a much better keeper than Valdes and is still getting better. Valdes doesn't really grant us any leverage imo at least, but then again I never really rated Valdes all that highly to begin with.

Just means it's not the end of the world if DDG leaves, Valdes is also good keeper.

I don't think Valdes is good enough to be our number one, I have never rated him as highly as some. Not good enough at a club like United and he has been out with a serious injury for a very long time without any football to boot. A good #2 signing for sure but if DDG walked we should be looking at getting a replacment of a similar ability the likes of Lloris, Courtois etc.. Just citing those names as examples. Valdes is a level below all be it superior to our current and probably outgoing #2.

Victor Valdes is a really underrated goalkeeper in some quarters.

Valdes is easily good enough to be any team's no.1. We're spoiled with DDG but after Neuer, Courtois and DDG he is the next group of keepers easily.

Biggest weakness of Valdes is he is absolutely **** at catching the crosses and he was not young like De Gea when we signed him. He will be murdered in this league.

Perhaps but he's had a bad injury and hasn't played any football for a year. We are assuming he's as good as he was. And he might not be. There is no way to know until he plays. I'm not sure I'd risk that.

If De gea goes for 40 odd million, you go spend 25 of that on Loris or somebody of that ilk. Loris would want Champions league football so he would surely agitate for a move away from Spurs if they miss out on top 4 again. He's gettable. And despite what some buffoons in this forum would have you believe, he is a brilliant keeper.

Feel Valdes got better over time, thought he was absolutely ****e for years but in and around the end of his tenure with Barca he seemed very reliable.

If DDG wanted to leave and we got in and around 50 million, I'd be obviously disappointed, but I wouldn't feel we were inadequately resourced with Valdes between the posts. If that 50 million was spent on 2 high class defenders maybe we wouldn't need to call on our keeper so often!

I don't see how they could get 50 million for him with a year left on his contract. If he wants to leave and they came in for 35, United would have to consider it.

I think they might do something similar to what happened with Ronaldo. Convince him to sign the new 5 year contract but have a handshake on allowing him to leave in a season or two. Both player and club can make a decent amount of money out of that.

How many times did we reach the semis under Fergie? six or seven?

We got to 4 finals and lost semis to Leverkusen and Dortmund. Am I forgetting one?

Did we lose to ac Milan one year too?

Maybe people are concerned because he's not the same age as he was in the Barca team, he's coming back from a serious injury and into a new league and country.

He's a good goalkeeper but has been under AND over appreciated by people because of the way Barcelona dominated games and limited chances to the opposition.

As Giggsy11 said, Valdes isn't convincing under crosses which is a worry when playing in the Premiership.

The big thing is, replacing de Gea with Valdes is a step backwards for Manchester United.

Honestly, if we got a ridicolous offer for De Gea I'd sell. Provided we could get in Begovic or someone of his sturdy standard.

Love the guy, but if we're talking 40m plus (which I doubt if he doesn't sign a contract soon) then he has to go.

Begovic and Valdes is good enough for us as a 1 and 2 imo, especially if we sign a CB and FB cover with the dosh raised.

12 days left in transfer window - very quiet on that front .. Maybe they have told LVG that he has spent enough now get in top 4... Mula is there for the summer.

Or they cant get the players they want in.

Its really hard to buy in jan.

If we got a CB in, I would be very confident of CL but other wise it will be a struggle

If De Gea, Rojo and Jones stay fit and we play the majority of games 4-4-2 (diamond or not) we'll get 4th.

Other variables would be that Arsenal get another minor blip, its in the bag if this happens along with the above imo.

I'm more optimistic than the "disaster" posters :p

They still have 7 days sure.

At this stage they would have talked to the players agent to see if he was open to a move and his wages. Only thing left is dealing with the club over a fee.
Talking to agents would have been done before January.

I read an article from espy a few weeks back on how a transfer works. From what I gathered:
The club gets a 3rd party to talk to the players agent who talks to his client about a move and see if he is up for it an what kinda wages he wouldn't demand.
Then club approaches other club and they talk about the fee. Medical etc.

Really hard to buy and yet in recent years Suarez, Sturridge, Mata, Matic and a bit further back Evra and Vidic were bought. It shouldn't be ignored as it's a good way to blood players and have them at 100 % for the next season.

My view is that other teams are starting to gel. Arsenal have certainly improved, Liverpool look much better than before and Southampton don't look like they are going away any time soon.

Spurs are just too inconsistent. That still leaves 4 batling for 2 spots (Cheleas & City taking the 1st two). Unless LVG gets some away form sorted out fairly sharpish I think we could well be losing out on 4th. Our current form does not indicate we have the ability to push on.

In all those cases though it was players moving to argueably a bigger club, or had been dispensed by their current club.

January is extremely difficult for a club like us to buy in January as your probably looking to entice a player away from another big club. Big teams arn't going to want to part with their first 11 players mid campaign.

Best bets are prying away players from smaller teams, or unearthing a gem.

Would be suprised if a household name arrived in the next 7 days. Suprised if anyone at all came tbh.
