Signed up last year for 12Mb uncontended broadband with no download limit from Eircom.
Initially got 3Mb down thereabouts and .2 up. The service was subject to frequent outages though and tech support put it down to distance from the exchange. Some adjustments later and I had a more reliable 1.5Mb down and .2 up.
Since then other neighbours have also signed up. Maybe it's coincidence but speeds have plummeted (.3 down at the moment with frequent dips).
Spoke to tech again last night, no change.

Am inclined to revert to 2 tin cans and a length of string, more reliable and certainly cheaper.

You didn't read the marketing correctly, "Up to 12mbit Uncongested" ;)

How far are you away from the nearest fibre box? What county are you in?

    Co Kildare.
Don't know location of a fibre box but suspect Ballitore which is 4km away.

Bad copper could mean crosstalk from your neighbours could nuke your sync, and theirs too.

Call eircom, they're the ones that can sort it, not a huge amount we can help you with from here.
