Because Falcao is a world class forward who is getting taken off even when he scores and dropped out of the squad for a 19 year old who's yet to score a senior goal in a meaningful game.

We have RVP and Rooney on the pitch, our problem against Southampton wasn't a lack of forwards.

Falcao did nothing other Christmas and is third choice.

Again I'm also astounded that 3 defenders made the bench ahead of him and Wilson also who has offered nothing including in the cup against lesser opposition where he had the chance to start. LVG better get real Spurs and Arsenal are hitting form and seem to be finding a solid first 11 whilst be are the opposite. It's gonna be a fight for those 2 champions league places.

Wilson did more than Falcao in the Yeovil game ?

Rooney was playing in midfield and Falcao did more than both of them over Christmas. Literally responsible for 2 goals out of positions RVP hasn't been scoring from which prevented 2 losses. Maybe if he was played as much he'd have scored more.

Falcao has been crap since he came back from injury. He's third choice and there are doubts over his fitness.

I'm more worried about our formation than which of our world class forwards gets a game.

in fairness our football has been so shocking and so void of creativity for most of the season, that it's very harsh to blame it on Falcao or any striker.

We have all these great players and they are having poor seasons, primarily due to the teams very poor set up.

I think if you had Rooney out of midfield, and a decent winger able to cross the ball (as opposed to Valencia who really isn't good enough), Falcao's goal tally would miraculously increase....

Pretty sure it's on Fox Sports 2

Fox in America don't have premier league football anymore.
    Nbc sports show every game.

I don't understand the ferour over dropping Falcao at the weekend, he's scored 3 nice goals but hardly done anything to suggest he should be undroppable.

Yeah I agree but it was very odd that he wasn't in the squad.

I'm still of the opinion that something else has gone on for Van Gaal to drop him completely.

Having said that would he really have made any difference? No shots on target from the team and feck all created from midfield for the strikers.

I'd expect Falcao to have scored some of the chances that fell to Mata.

Possibly if he had been in that position, certainly the second one that Mata put over the bar I'm sure he would have buried. My point was thought that the strikers on the day, Van Persie and Di Maria(huge mistake by Van Gaal playing him there) didn't get a sniff all day and no service from midfield. Falcao could have been on the pitch and it would have still been Mata on the end of those chances.

I'm convinced there was more to it than we know. I'm surprised the press haven't pursued it more other than asking why did you drop him he's a world class striker.

I've nothing to base it on really but the minute I found out he wasn't in the 18 and wasn't injured my initial reaction was that something has gone on with him for him to be dropped and I haven't changed my mind since.

In not just talking about goals, his first touch has been horrendous as has his general contribution.

What are the chances of me getting a ticket for the game today?

Since it isn't on TV, I think I'll try to avoid updates until full time.

Could watch a stream but the thought of an immediate feeling of despair/elation when I check the result at 4:55 appeals to me.

Just on Di Maria, I could see the sense in playing him up front. If LVG was worried about Southampton pushing up and causing us problems with it, then playing Di Maria up front would be an affective counter or disincentive to that. The strange thing for me is once it was clear they were defending deeper and Di Maria wasn't being effective that LVG didn't change it about a bit.

Regarding the Falcao thing, one possibility could be that LVG doesn't want him long term and so he is not that pushed about improving or sustaining Falcao's form. As you say, he wasn't particularly missed on the day.

If you're going to avoid news for the length of the game, you could just extend that period for an extra few hours and then download the full game and watch it in the evening. ...actually thinking about our likely performance, that's probably not worth the effort :o

Whatever about Van Gaals reasoning for putting Di Maria there, the fact is we have no real "game line" breakers in the team from midfield, players that commit opposition players, go past them, run at them etc and actually force the opposition to lose their shape. Without Di Maria running from deep I think teams find it too easy to hold a solid shape, keep space at a minimum and their defenders are rarely if ever forced to step out of the line and engage our midfielders, leaving more room for our strikers.

On Van Gaal not particularly fancying hanging on to Falcao, that may well be, but even taking that into account it was bizarre to see him not in the squad, especially with three defenders on the bench. As said I've nothing to base my opinion on really but my gut feeling is that there is more to it than a footballing decision.

He has improved every game his all round contribution has been good. Van Persie has been been fairly anonymous but somehow he keeps his place week in week out.

"Awful" is way too harsh on Wilson, a young lad with a few games to his name in a team that is playing so poorly. And it's not like he's done nothing - check out his tackles won, aerial duels won, interceptions and succesful take-ons - he's obviously been working hard on the pitch. Not that I'm saying he should be playing ahead of Falcao, just that the criticism of him is, imo, way too harsh.

I actually think he has regressed since the start of the season, while RVP has improved the last 2 months and contributes way more in general play.

Put Falcao in Chelsea's team and he would have a similar amount of goals to Costa imo

I accept I am being harsh, and he is very young in comparison to the others I listed in the link, and he is highly rated.

Personally if I was the manager and I had to let one player go, it would be Van Persie. Rooney offers more, Falcao I believe offers more, Wilson is young with a bright future, would keep Mata and if we were to get another striker in then I would go with Dybala who is young and looks like he is going to be a superstar.

Next season we should be challenging in all four competitions so i think it will be easier for the manager when it comes to player rotation.

Today I am sure Falcao starts and he should play all the game.
