The team isn't good enough. Look at the shambolic defense and how many points it's cost us this season made even worse by the injuries.

We had a poor start to the season which was to be expected but results and performances were very good before the busy Christmas period.

We're still going to finish top 4 this season which is the target.

Give the man time to finish building his own squad.

results were good but the performances were poor.United were blessed to win some of those game before xmas period.

10 games unbeaten, we lose 1 game to a very good Southampton team who denied Chelsea and Arseanal points as well and all of a sudden Van Gaal is the new Moyes.

Save the rolling eyes, that unbeaten run was always papering over the cracks and myself and others said so more than once.

And no, performances were not good before the busy christmas period, plenty of people said that at the time also.

A lot of it can be blamed on the players though in fairness.

The likes of Van Persie should have had about 5-10 more goals than he has this season. He's been missing chances he would have buried a couple of seasons ago.

Our new signings have been largely injured and our defense is crap even when it's 100% and it's been largely under 50% this season.

Do you expect us to be playing like Chelsea? Maybe Barcelona?

I expect us to play like Manchester United. And we have the players there to do exactly that.

We don't though. Taking into account the injury situation which everyone loves to ignore and the shambolic defense playing like United has not been possible and will not be possible this season.

If you can't accept that maybe you should support another team or have patience and wait for Van Gaal to finish building his own team.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

Well we were 14 points better off than then just 2 seasons ago. Since then we've gone backwards while we have progressed. Also we've probably spent more money on players in that time. So what the hell is happening at the club?

    To answer your question :absolutely!

On a seperate note, reports Redknapp could be sacked if his QPR team lose to us this weekend. Normally wouldn't be mad for this type of scenario, but genuinely hope we absolutely slaughter them so 'Arry can go into retirement.

What is happening? We're still in a state of transition is what's happening made even worse by Moyes failures last season.

We still have a lot of Fergies deadwood in the team. Arguably Moyes deadwood now as well. Fellaini and Mata really aren't good enough.

It takes 2-3 years to build a team. A net spend of €110 million by Van Gaal is nothing. The likes of Real Madrid spend that on 1 player.

It will take another €150-200 million to sort this team out offset by selling the deadwood.

I'd argue that 2 seasons ago the rest of the teams in the premier league were a lot worse than they are now as well. We weren't good, they were bad.

If you are happy to settle for disorganised performances, confused players and toothless attacking displays then maybe you should support another team, there are plenty out there that are happy to settle for that type of mediocrity.

I'm not happy with it but at least I can understand the reasons behind the performances. The team isn't good enough. If you want to keep scapegoating the manager that's fine. We will have a revolving door of managers and won't improve.

Whether you see it or not we have improved from last season.

LVG can talk the talk unlike Moyes but so far on the pitch not much has changed. In fairness he's had an incredible amount of injuries and should be judged at the end of the season imo. If he continues to persist with 5-3-2 due to stubbornness and performances don't improve I wouldn't care if he was sacked in the summer

Look it is going to take time and Van Gaal has made mistakes no doubt, the 3/5 at the back has been horrendous as have a lot of performances but calling him a spoofer is idiotic. Its not like he just arrived on the management scene.

There have been numerous factors that have to be taken into account this season with the results and performances so far and that does include Van Gaal and his decisions at times and indeed tactics but it cant be over-emphasized how much change there has been at the club this season. Even more than last season i would say. New manager again, huge turnover in staff in both directions, it was always going to take time for all that to bed in.
Throw in all the constant injuries and it still doesnt feel to me like the real beginning of Van Gaals reign has started fully.

I`m fully behind him. I`m still convinced he will move back to a back 4 when everyone is fit and up to speed and will get us champions league football this season.

I think playing 5 at the back is largely down to having ****e center backs and poor winger options outside of Di Maria who has largely been injured.

A 4-2-3-1 with 2 defensive mids would probably be better at the moment though.

The thing is Southampton took advantage of our weakness at the back. Our defenders can't pass the ball and panic under pressure. Southampton pressed us high for the full 90 minutes forcing long balls from panicky defenders.

It was a great performance from them. Not many teams will be able to press us like that for 90 minutes.

Would love it, not because I dislike Harry, but I despise QPR after their shambolic collapse against City when they won the league on the last day. So gutless. This, along with their ridiculous policy of buying players who are well, well past it makes me hate them and hope they get relegated.

It's Joey Barton you should be directing your anger at there.

    .

It's easy say that but don't forget he blew 160 million over the summer and never thought of actually buying any replacements. Then wastes time signing a replacement goalkeeper when it's quite clear that investment is needed in other areas.

I've seen through it all year. Still hope he turns it around though.

I cant see it happening. He is far too arrogant for the job and is too absorbed in himself - he had the same problem the second time round at Barca. Its all going to end in tears - it always does with him.
Leaving Falcao out of the squad Sunday was a disgrace.
Lets be honest - we have had 2 decent performance in 3 months - Hull and Newcastle both at home - don't include the Liverpool game, year we won 3-0 but they could have as easily had 3 themselves. If this "philosophy" was so ground-breaking then surely the players would have it picked up by now and he would have had made transfers back in August to make sure it worked. We have been second rate week in week out and why has Januzaj has gone backwards?

Loads of United fans on here have their heads in the sand like they did last season with Moyes.
And dont come back to me with "oh, we only lost 1 game in 10" - it was hardly playing great football was it? Lucky at Arsenal and what happened at St Marys was a total fluke. Not to talk of the borefests in Stoke and at Villa.

Seemingly he thought Jones, Evans and Smalling would be better than they have been. Unfortunately.

As for wasting time signing a goalkeeper... really? How much time do you think was actually 'wasted' on that? You think the club can only do one thing at a time?

On top of it all - and a very key point - we have no European football this season and were out of the Carling Cup after 1 round.
So no excuses for the ****e we have had to watch over the last few months.

Just seen that Mike Keegan is working for the Daily Mail. He's gone from M.E.N to the BBC to the Mail in less than a year now.

I wonder if he was let go from the BBC or if the Daily Mail poached him?

Ah Jaysus they made it incredibly exciting. They were 2-1 up againat City with 90 mins gone when they were expected to be utterly destroyed. 999 times out of a thousand, City would have cantered to the title on the day.

I was only really checking updates for Fantasy Football because there was no way City were losing to QPR.

Instead, they didn't, and gave me the memory of me in a Parisian shopping centre sitting on the ground as Aguero scored. Was standing with my back to a pillar. I was on patchy 3G looking for updates from Sky. Then Dzeko scored. No way could they pull it back.

Then that update that broke my fcuking heart.

    "Aguero..."

That's all it said. Then 3-2 came up. Slid to the ground. Christ it still hurts.

A good mate of mine had gone over to Cork for the weekend to visit his sister. He went up to the bar to get drinks with 87 on the clock and as he was being served, Dzeko scored. He was coming back down with 2 pint bottles when Aguero scored - the two bottles went flying into the screen blind the game was being projected on to. He got fvcked out of the pub.

It was a measly net spend of £110. It's nothing in modern football. The thing is good center backs don't grow on trees. Who was available that we could have got? We were being linked with Mangala who City bought and he doesn't look good at all. He bought Rojo who has been injured all season. I am sure he will buy more in the summer.

Mourinho is arrogant. Does that make him a bad manager too? There is a difference between confidence and arrogance. Van Gaal has every reason to be confident.

You can't rebuild a team in such heavy disarray in 1 season. He has made some really good signings. Signings Moyes would not have been able to make.

It doesn't matter what his philosophy is if certain players just aren't up to the task. He didn't have much of a pre-season and I'm sure he knows now who can and can't live up to his expectations. We could easily see another 6-7 players coming in this summer with similar numbers going out. It needs to be done.

I don't have my head in the sand. I wanted Moyes out by November last season. It was obvious he was gutless and lost.

The problem is supporters who expect the United of old. One of Fergies great teams but Fergie didn't build any of those great teams in a single season and we were poor in other states in transition under him as well.

Transition under a new manager and staff with a lot of deadwood in the team is even harder.

Van Gaal want's to make United the best team in Europe and I believe he has the tactical skills, experience and the player pulling power to do so.

I could have never said that about Moyes.

I never wanted Moyes either - and I posted on here early November 2012 that i wanted him out and got ridiculed fro it. He was never the man for the job, had nothing to show for himself at that level and is suited only to smaller clubs where he can make them difficult to play against. I'm glad he is gone, have no sympathy for him and dont want him back.
