@Iqbalinho_: @Carra23 do you reckon Liverpool should sign Valdes ?”

Yes all top clubs now have 2 keepers contesting the number 1 spot.

To be fair to Carragher he knows what he's doing. He's just trying to wind up people for a laugh.

Di Maria made the UEFA team of the year.

Neuer - Lahm Ramos Godin Alaba - Robben Kroos DiMaria - Messi Ibrahimovic Ronaldo

I predict no more than two of those transfers will happen. Care to have a wager on it ;) ?

Not at the moment, no. I'm only hearing rumours of the above stuff happening.

Its seemingly an open secret that De Gea will move back to spain, just a matter of time. Real are looking at him. Whether the trigger is pulled on it this summer, remains to be seen. If we don't get him tied down to a new contract soon it will become far more likely.

I have read a litle about Bale having a youg family with a plan to raise his kids in England - with his move to Real never planned as being long term. That could, of course, be bollix. Some articles in spanish press the other day about Madrid players becoming fed up with his selfishness on the ball. IMO it could be the start of a press lead push that (IMO) Madrid did to Ozil and DiMaria prior to, and after, their sales.

Reus is being linked everywhere, but I do read a bit that Madrid and Bayern are frontrunners. If it is Madrid, I would reckon Bale is most likely to be sold to make room for him (at a massive profit on the switch - they'd get as much if not more than they paid spurs for him and Rues is available for 25million in the summer) Ronaldo - James - Rues behind Benzema.

It is all, obviously, speculation at this point but I do believe there is significant interest from United in Bale, from Madrid in De Gea and Madrid in Reus. My opinion is that interest could become more and more concrete over the next few months but until I start reading about it becoming more concrete in the places I trust (from people I trust), i'm leaving it as a no-bet prediction.

That goal against Yeovil just pushed him over the line, I'd say.

Your opinion seems to have shifted quite a bit then in the last 24 hours or so??
Looks like Valdes is signing - few places reporting a deal has been agreed. Gutted.

Bye bye Dave... must be off to Madrid in the summer.

I don't particularly rate Valdes, so I'd be gutted if De Gea left. Elite keepers are so hard to get, so a big fee wouldn't be much consolation for me.

Valdes is already a keeper of similar quality. De Gea is in a rich vein of form and has more upside, but he's not a level above Valdes on career to date IMO.

If Valdes were to become the new United #1 you would still have one of the top 3 GKs in the EPL easily. You don't have a GK who can still improve a lot, but most people would - or at least should - be reasonably happy with an extension of the current situation.

IDK on the Bale/Reus situation and don't think it's very relevant.

I think he has to be honest.

De Gea's "rich form" is actually just him adjusting to a new league and country with different physical demands. I think he is that good.

His performances with A Madrid were genuinely outstanding. Id no vested interest in him back then as a would now as a United fan. But that level of goalkeeping displayed Id never seen from Valdes. I was instantly a fan. Bit like when I saw Buffon make his debut at 17 for Parma.

Obviously Valdes has had his moments over the years, but there was always technical weaknesses with him even at Barca's peak.

For me anyway De Gea is already a different level keeper than Valdes. By the end of career who knows how good he'll be.

Especially since De Gea is still only progressing; think a lot of us need to remind ourselves that he's only 24 years of age.

I'd be gutted myself but I'd be of the opinion that you can get by with a good to very good keeper if you're sorted properly in defence, which at the moment obviously isn't the case. Valdes is decent enough, could do a lot better and worse.

de gea is the best shot stopper in the game right now, but he still needs to work on his commanding of the area. sometimes he is slow off his line as well when he should be coming for crosses but again he is only 24 and still has plenty of time for that to develop

I'm certain DDG will a sign a new contract and stay with us so this speculation does not bother me. Yes its a possibility but afaik DDG loves it here and has settled.

Valdes joining is only LVG doing an ex team-mate a favor, nothing more.

DDG will stay, I'm 100% sure of it. You heard it here first.

I have to agree with this, I've never been madly impressed by him. He's obviously had an incredible career in terms of success but he wasn't exactly pivotal in Spain or Barcelona's dominance. That said, I do think he'll be a good mentor to DDG and a great #2 to have but I have my doubts if he'd be a good enough #1, should DDG move on.

I find it hard to get anyway excited about signing a sub goalkeeper to be fair, regardless of who he is. How many times a season will he play?? F all .

Still tho... Its funny that Liverpool are in desperate need of a goalkeeper, and utd go sign a top one for the bench!!

If De Gea was to sign a new contract, I wouldn't sell him for anything bar an astronomical figure down the line. Keepers of his ability don't come along very often and no amount of money can replace that.

Would imagine a release clause for real could be put in. Something astronomical like 120m.....

I think I'd say the opposite. Unless you're absolutely dominating games, then I think that extra quality between the sticks is important for winning the big prizes. The same as strikers really. At least keepers, of all standards, tend to be cheaper than strikers.

Edit: Funny, as soon as I pressed post I thought of Hart winning the league with City and Lehman with Arsenal... also Barthez winning World and European Cups. Strong support for your case, but I'm still not sure.

If DDG did go I wouldn't want VV as our no.1

We should go after Peter Cech.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,638 ✭✭✭✭bangkok

Valdes is an excellent goalkeeper, granted not as good as de gea but a very good one no doubt. wouldn't have any issue with him being our keeper if anything happened de gea, sold /injured.

I'd rather Valdes to Cech and by quite a bit.

just with all the talk of de Gea leaving, has anyone for one second thought about iker casillas?

He is back in favour at real Madrid, 16 years in the first team and still only 33. he has at least 2 good years left in him with Madrid. He has a massive say in what goes on at the club.

I would be of the opinion that de gea WILL sign a new contract with Man utd and if his form continues the way it has been, inevitably he will sign for real Madrid but 2 or 3 years down the line.
