Broadband dongle - changing sim for a different provider

Hi Guys I have a dongle from three mobile but id like to switch over to tesco. I can get a sim from tesco and try topping up. But would the firmware cause issues? so when i run out of credit will the dongle always force me to attempt to update with three.ie? Thanks Alan

Dongles are usually locked to the network and Three won't unlock them.

But it should be possible to get an unlock code on the net.
