Like when Suarez signed a new contract at Liverpool around this time last year....

If he was to leave, we'd get a lot for him if he had more than 12 months left on his contract. Great to keep him, good to get the correct value for him. Either way, him signing a contract is a positive thing for the club.

Valdes coming in means DDG is on his way. It's only a matter of when tbh.

De Gea has 18 months left on his contract. I don't see how signing a new keeper on an initial 18 month contract, automatically means De Gea is leaving. Both could potentially leave the club on the same day (yes, I know there is an option for a further 12 months, but it is an option, not a given)

If De Gea was to leave, there's also the question of destination. Barca signed ter Stegen who will probably be a long term keeper for them. De Gea is an Atletico kid. I wouldn't take it as a given he has dreams of playing for their cross town rivals, especially when Atleti are in direct competition with them now.

Outside of those two, I wouldn't see any other options. The only way he'd be able to return to Atletico is on a free, which seems very remote that he would screw over United like that.

Our next seven league games. All winable imo, West ham & Swansea away are tough but I would love to see us get 21 points. Sadly there will probaly be a couple of draws and maybe a loss in there

    Southampton (h)
    QPR (a)
    Leicster (h)
    West Ham (a)
    Burnely (h)
    Swansea (a)
    Sunderland (h)

Only 2 I'm worried about are west ham and Southampton, if bony leaves its a huge blow to swansea, Leicester, Burnley and Sunderland we should win, QPR is hard to say they are good at home but we should still win

My loyalty to Rooney prevented me from ptentially 100 points in the last gameweek. Had him as captain and drafted in Harry Kane, who combined with Chadli to rack up the points vs Chelsea. Although to be fair, it was a strange result and I probably wouldn't have put either of them captain considering they were playing the league leaders.

Might give Di Maria the arm-band this weekend

    Got in Kane myself.

I'm a sucker for these Ings, Austin and now Kane types ha!

I would be disappointed if we can't win at least 5 of those 7 games.

I think we are due a defeat soon too though.

Would take 6 wins and 1 defeat very quick now.

I think people need to toughen up tbh. Slick is great, but so are the more divisive types, as long as they're genuine.

It's an indication of the poor quality of this thread how difficult it is for rival fans to take part in any discussion. I'm not saying that there aren't good posters in the thread, a fair number of the regulars are sound and sensible. But there's a depressing number of posters who aren't interested in intelligent debate.

The thread would be a whole lot better if we had more posts from genuine posters who are rival fans - like Alan, Rarnes, SlickRic, etc - but given the idiotic reactions rival fans so often get, it's no surprise they generally steer clear. So the only non-United fans we're left with are the trolls.

There's certain posters though, that when you see there name pop up, you know its going to be a post filled with negativity towards united.

The definition of a troll is someone who posts inflammatory content looking for a reaction, if you don't think that's what some of these people are doing, then I have to disagree with you tbh.

Slick and Rarnes are fine and will come in and discuss issues without always taking the view that utd are in trouble/doing something wrong/general negativity. A few (some who claim to be utd fans) are just on the blatant wind up.

    ...

Save yourself the card and edit that. I wasn't referring to that poster you mention when I was talking about genuine posters.

Al ain't on the windup. Overly critical maybe, but not a wum. Maybe he's a pain in the ass in match threads and that's what I'm missing (I don't go near them any more and life is infinitely better for it).

Not on the windup maybe but he'll never wind the most award for most optimistic poster.

Not particularly, hopefully he's needed for no more than 5-10 games a season

I think many are still wary with the de gea issue this is why not much positives said about valdes, I'd say if we see de gea signing a new contract people will be alot more talkative about valdes

Just a bit yeah. Looking towards next season there will be (hopefully) more games with C.L. group games, plus maybe we won't exit the C1 Cup at such an early stage. I definitely see enough time for Valdes to get 10 games next season as number 2 unless he has an injury recurrence or setback.

Not really. Though I suppose in a sense you could say that I'm excited because I couldn't have imagined three years ago that United would start splashing the cash on players like RVP, Mata, Di Maria, Falcao and now... a big name player as a backup goalie? Makes me wonder what might be coming down the tracks.

Yeah it's what lvg appears to be building.. Fantastic quality of player and buying world class aswell.

You read my mind. Makes me wonder and excites me greatly, I just hope if the money is going to keep coming that it gets spent on where it's most needed first of all.

Let's just say for a second that all is what it appears to be and things are as LVG has said they are; Victor Valdes has joined United as number 2 goalkeeper. With reports of the club higher-ups looking to develop a Galacticos-style transfer policy at the club, Valdes, Falcao, DiMaria could be just the tip of the iceberg in terms of some of the players LVG will be looking to bring in during his reign at the club. And like Valdes, maybe not all of them will be brought in with regular first team action in mind. I reckon LVG is looking to strengthen the entire squad as much as he can, and then go for it on all fronts next season.

LVG's solid relationship with Valdes is said to have been vital to him joining United, I wonder what other old friends Louis is still on good terms with who could be of value to the team/squad. Robben anyone?

The Victor Valdes stuff is interesting.

If what James Horncastle said on Football Weekly today is true (Dea Gea out, Krul in), he and Krul would be a League/Cup pairing perhaps?

James Horncastle is the worst of the worst.

Very respectable writer imo. Vast knowledge of the sport, so I wouldn't dismiss him like that.

Good article writer in fairness. However His knowledge of clubs transfer plans is nonexistent and most of his stuff turns out to be pure fluff

Fair enough, and I pretty much doubted it myself. Prob has as weak links as it gets so with United . .
