Michael Keane has permanently moved to Burnley.

IMO a better player than McNair or Blacket. feel he should have been given their chances this season. Disappointing to see him gone without being given the chance they have.

yea still poor though, id say once defensive cover is bought Mcnair will soon follow, looks like a disaster waiting to happen

Jesus lads, you're talking about teenagers. Of course they're going to have mistakes in them and look sketchy at times, dumping thhem out the door is a terrible idea.

He got a chance or two last year and he was shocking was he not? (could be mistaken)

He got a run in the MKDons game and wasn't great. That said everyone has a bad game once in a while. LVG must not see potential in him. Best of luck to him anyway!

I really like Blackett. Versatile and calm on the ball. Hasn't looked bad bar one game this season imo. Very impressive as I wasn't expecting much.

I think the Valdes idea is very clear.

If you're going to have a young, relatively inexperienced (but admittedly excellent) first choice keeper, then you're better having an old head as backup.

Right now DDG looks unstoppable but if he goes through a rough patch or gets injured and backup needs to come in, it's far better that it's Valdes.

If for example Lindegard had to come on for a string of crucial matches that might decide CL qualification, and with a perhaps suspect defence in front of him, would you trust him to be able to deliver back to back performances, or of he did mess up, to be able to put that behind him before the next crucial match pops up.

    Good management IMO.

How is De Gea relatively inexperienced. This is his 6th season as a first choice keeper with over 200 games for two big clubs. He is far from inexperinced.

His improvement in the 2 seasons prior to the summer was amazing, imo. I thought he was a fairly rubbish RB when he first came into the academy side, turned into the star performer at CB. Thought he was very good vs Chelsea in the league cup semi finals when he played them a couple of years back. Felt he had a good shot.

Will be interested to see how he progresses from here on - and if he declares for Ireland. Would be a very usefull addition to the squad in the future imo. I think he will turn out to be a good solid PL defender, which is more than enough to play for Ireland! Don't see him making the grade with England.

Of course he could have no interest in re-declaring for Ireland, having switched from Ireland to England once already.

In fairness, he is not up to the level required, compare him to Varane who is the same age, no comparison

He's only played for the United first team 5 times.

MK Dons this season (i missed the game and never watched it, so not going to comment). Came on as a second half sub vs Sunderland. I may be missremembering but I thought he did fine.

2 league cup ties in 12/13. Was good, imo, vs Newcastle and Chelsea in those games.

Other appearance was as a sub vs Alerdershot in 11/12.

Bar the MK Dons game, I don't think he was shocking in any appearance he has had.

Obviously he could be shocking in training in comparison to Blackaet and McNair. But based on the football I have seen from that lot for the reserves, youths and first team - i would say Keane and Thorpe are better than Blacket and McNair.

Vlaar out for six weeks apparently. Guaranteed to sign in the next few days if that's the case!

I like Keane, Blackett and McNair but dont think any of them have the quality to be considered anything more than backup options.

Lets be honest about things everyone
We have a glut of average CB's at the moment
McNair, Blackett and Keane. One of them had to go for their careers sake. Another may have to go too.
Jones, Smalling and Evans. Not commanded the CB position due to continued injuries and playing RB etc. One or two of them needs to get a grip on a CB berth or face being shipped out
Rojo is still too early to say if he's a CB or LB/LWB but has to be given time. He's good enough

LVG is looking at Strootman and a CB this window and we're all calling for a leader at CB so we can't have 8 CB's and more departures are inevitable

I think it was the MK Dons match that I'm remembering I'd say but from what I remember he was shocking against inferior opposition.

People don't develop at the same pace.

Just look at you and me, when you were 14 your cock looked huge in comparison to mine. Now I've a monster schlong on me and you look like you're smuggling acorns!!

Seriously lads, I've seen metaphorical measuring contests before but never someone trying to start a literal one. Drop it.

His positional sense, even when receiving a pass needs serious improvement.

Do other club threads need this much intervention or just united one? I'm stunned at the directions it spin towards before you intervene. You have me sympathy.

We did it for Mickey Owen. That's enough.

Don't pity him. Before, he was just TSC, then he got the power and made himself Lord.

    Never forget.

That is less to do with the quality of the thread and more to do with the quality of TSC's modding tbh.

He does a good job putting out fires before they start.

His job isn't made easier by comments like yours though, so if you really had some sympathy you'd try be somewhat constructive tbh.

His ability to track runners is almost non existent as well. His passing is also very laboured. Not that he cant pass he just takes far too long over it.

Im genuinely at a loss to why Thorpe hasn't been given a run out so far this season.

He stood out so much more Blackett, McNair or Keane in the reserves.

Given his strengths Id have though LVG would have found an opening for him. Its an odd one to say the least.

Hasn't Thorpe had a few injury probs?
