Now for United to announce DDG on a new contract and all will be well once again.

Zlatan stuggled, Neymar took a while to get going but had a decent first season, Sanchez was great for them too.

Zlatan began by setting records there, certainly didn't struggle but he was never going to work there, his ego and Messis ego! Team is only big enough for one, same story with anyone who goes there. Prepare to be second fiddle or don't bother.

Though you'd think Valdes could get a number one spot at some champions league team* so Why would he wanna be a second choice. Maybe it's money but why would united pay big money for a number '2'?

Looks like de gea is off.

Not a dig at united, just saying he could be a starter for those lowly teams that qualify like Gala or an Italian team.

Looks like Valdes is signing - few places reporting a deal has been agreed. Gutted.

Bye bye Dave... must be off to Madrid in the summer.

Didn't he just sign a new deal? Valdes stories have had him linked with plenty of clubs, the interest out there may not have been as strong as he hoped and he could be looking to prove his fitness and maybe play some games to put him in the shop window and he is a decent number 2 option,Lindegaard is off in the summer though I would imagine so we need a back up.

Yeah would agree that this means De Gea will be leaving this year. Hopefully get Bale in return but I think Perez said he isn't going anywhere.

    Your reasoning doesn't necessarily follow.

My guess is there are still fitness issues, the type that mean a club couldn't rely on him being available for every match of the season, but might be prepared to take a chance if he is only going to be needed in emergencies.

Any bookies doing odds yet on De Gea's next club then? Could be a few pound to make

De Gea ain't leaving, dozens of reports to say that Lindegaard and Amos will be sold this month or by the summer so Valdes is going to be no. 2.

    Yous are all wrong.

It turns out Valdes can play RB and can cross a ball past the first man so it is Valencia who will be leaving.

Valdes has reportedly gotten an 18 month deal. Which means it expires the same time as DDGs deal. Why are people assuming that he'll take over from DDG after signing such a short contract.

Victor Valdes deal done. 18 month contract. Some reserve keeper.

I used to read the Manchester United threads for some news and good input, but the suggestions by some people are getting horrendous and it seems like some posters on here have no clue about football outside of Man United , or even Man United...

Wasn't Lidergard(?) promised in the summer he could leave next window?
    Valdes is new no2.

Still, we really need ED to get Dave his new contract in the next few weeks to put an end to months of speculation.

I really hope valdes signing is just a strong number 2 and a mentor to de gea with them being Spanish.

    De Gea last November:

"Yes, my contract runs out in 2016. But they didn't sign him for that"
"Victor had a difficult injury, he had a bad time and the boss knows him well and has given him the opportunity to recover there."Yes, Victor is training over in Manchester -- he's still not 100 percent after his injury. When he is fully fit he will start to train with us. He's still not training in goal with us. From time to time he comes out with the goalkeeping coach, but very little still. "Van Gaal knows him well because he gave Victor his debut at Barca and has a special affection for him and, whenever possible, we have to help where we can.
"Football is cruel at times, it's difficult. When things go well you're very good and when they go badly... well, it's awful."
"It's not the moment to think of my future. It's the moment to think about Manchester as we are not in a good moment. I'm happy there and feel very loved by the fans. I'm focused on doing well."
"Casillas will be in the national team and at Madrid as long as he wants.
"I'm in England for several years now, and it's true that at the start it was difficult -- but now I'm very happy and I feel very loved by the people in Manchester and everything is going well."

Another convenience is it gives the club a slightly stronger position in negotiating with DDG, to have a viable alternative. As it stands, DDG could demand anything he wants because we have fa else in the position but now maybe we can say "no Dave we're not giving you 300 grand a week".....while I personally would pay him anything he wants, I aint running a massive corporation of a football club.

Also, the Valdes being experienced and Spanish for mentoring thing... I like that too.

I'm not worried, Valdes wouldn't make any sense at all as a replacement for De Gea so that can't be what's happening here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,812 ✭✭✭thelad95

I can definitely see Lindegaard leaving. He's good enough to be first choice elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,002 ✭✭✭beno619

Big Dave is streets ahead of Valdes, I dont really buy the mentoring angle. He's either #2 or a replacement.

I'm amazed he stayed as long as he did. Never let us down

Good cover and if back to full fitness a great chance to give De Gea a rest once in a while after all he has played every league game now for months.

yes he is a number 2, but he can also help improve de gea even more, given his experience and all that

Valdes was toxic at times for Barca. He's not even in the same hemisphere as De Gea.

Thats the other side of it, of the occams razor thing.

If United expected De Gea to leave they would not be replacing him with Valdez, they have the time and money to aim higher than an out of contract keeper with fitness concerns.
