I think De Gea will stay for another season.

First signing of the window and it's Valdes. Not bad imo. But there's definetely no way that he is going to be replacing De Gea in the first team unless he shows immense form.

The only player that will leave as a result is Lindegaard.

If Valdes is still at United after the summer, DDG won't be. I can't see it being any other way.

I also don't particularly rate Valdes, so I'm really not happy about this.

Losing DeGea after making him the world class keeper he is today would be devastating... I can only hope a return to CL football might keep him put.

United - Could well afford it, but could do far far better with that money that spunk it on one player. (Addidas)

Completely forgot that Adidas are the new shirt sponsor next season. They'll obviously chip in for Messi.

    This is so on.

red issue have claimed that De gea is leaving and Valdes has been promised as being his direct replacement.

normally they have stories a month or two before the press get it, watch this story get completely out of hand now :(

if we were to sell DDG, id want world record money for him, as in €50million sort of money. a sweetner for Messi or Ronaldo!?

Currently staying at the Lowry Hotel, Valdés is now looking for property in the same street/area as De Gea, Mata & Herrera.

Valdés purchased a 7-seater people carrier for his family just before Christmas, who will also move to Manchester.

Víctor Valdés signing for Manchester United a great addition as a number two at the club. 18-month contract.

would mean its official i guess.

On Off the Ball last November or December, there was a discussion about Messi. It was that this is the first time that Messi leaving could be true.
It goes like this, the Barcelona board are happy to cash him in, as his buyout clause is €250 million or about £196 million, and they have been going out of their way to push Messi out.

    Messi's father last November:
"Messi is happy. It's obvious that if the club gets an offer and say: 'We want to sell you', he will have to study it.
"Today, there are no thoughts of leaving Barcelona."

Maybe the Barcelona board wants to sell. Time for Ed to put a bid in...Adidas and Chevrolet would approve...

Could be Lindegaard out then? Wish him all the best if he goes.

Oh, and I forgot til just now that DDG doesn't have all that long left on his contract. up summer 2016. Signing Valdes and DDG only has 18months on his deal... bad times.

he has played i think 1 game since 2013.....surely he wants to leave, as opposed to us forcing him out, especially being 3rd choice now.

he is a good keeper, would make a good number 1 for most clubs outside the top 6.

I'd be very surprised if Valdes is signing with a view to taking the number 1 spot next season. I think it's more likely that Lindegaard is gone this month, Valdes gets to prove his fitness while being paid by one of the biggest clubs in the world, then United sell him in the summer and use the combined fees to sign a new number 2. Win-win for all involved.

If it turns out to be true what a truly awful move it will be for us.

If he wants to go I guess we can't stop him. Hope its BS.

I'm confident De Gea will be here next year.

Be disgusted if DDG leaves and Valdez is his replacement. Don't rate the guy too highly.
What sorta fee would DDG fetch ?Would want to be at least doubling what was paid for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,775 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

We know LVG is not afraid to use a goalkeeper as a sub in a game, when the goalkeeper is not injured.

Who knows what happens with DDG, it is like the fun around the Messi's Barcelona future and the speculation, fun to post about but no one knows.
Won't be fun if De Gea leaves though, will need to sign Neuer then...:P

This is what I heard when it was first mooted, that Valdes wanted to get some game time and fitness with a big club.

I wonder how much we would actually have to spend to be in trouble??

well don't forget we already pay huge money on the interest repayments on the loan, but if we didn't have that loan now with the deals in place from next season on, we could probably spend easily, 150m per season and not break any rules, that's not even including selling players

its only 12 months from the summer, then we are in a spot of bother, though perhaps we'd still get €30-€35m for him. he is worth more that .

Valdes is a really poor goalkeeper

There should be mass outrage if he ever becomes number 1 at United, number 2 to Dave for years to come I can handle

Where is he going to get game time at United?

Are we going to start randomly resting our first choice keeper in PL games, to keep him fresh for PL games? Halfway through the season, no CL, no Carling Cup and only a handfull of FA Cup games (potentially) to add to the PL schedule. Just don't see the sense.

interest payments are down to around 20million per year now according to Andersred, IIRC. No the huge sums they had been.

for when de gea gets injured :o

I guess we won't have to wait too long to know the story. If De Gea is leaving and Valdes is his replacement, I can't see van Gaal continuing with De Gea in goal for the rest of the season.

For now Valdes will be a solid number 2, I'll wait until we know otherwise before getting up in arms about his signing.

Words won't describe how pissed I will be if we replace De Gea with Valdes.

Can only hope that its a case of Valdes being brought in as backup - there are rumours that Lindegaard and Amos are both on their way this month - like Reina is at Bayern and Navas is at Real.

To be fair, I would have little faith in Lindegaard pulling off anything close to what De Gea saved this season if god forbid Dave was injured. So it makes sense to get in a guy who is experienced, with good distribution and who can work on getting back to close to where he was previously.

Even though we need more the only thing I'm hoping for this window is a bumper 8 year deal for Dave (ok 5 year anyways). If that's the only thing to happen I'll be delighted.

Feel like people are jumping to conclusions.

Top teams have top options for all positions on the field. Nothing more than that here, and panicking so quickly is panicking for the sake of it....

Don't really know why people are overly concerned, and I am one that thinks De Gea will go at some point.

Occams razor would suggest that Valdes is coming because it suits both parties, United get an experienced top flight no.2 and Valdes gets a contract and a chance to regain/prove his fitness.

This isn't a guy we are signing from some other club, its a guy that no other club seems to want, he isn't going to be coming in demanding a first team spot. I'm not saying De Gea will never leave, but the arrival of Valdes is not really connected to that issue.

I imagine its act now for later. I mean the guy hasn't played a competitive game in ages so we're not going to fire him in now at this stage of the season. But other teams may have done. Next season we'll be competing on 4 fronts hopefully so his experience will be needed as backup.

Looking there and it seems he only has 18 months left.If that's the case we wouldnt get a big fee.Hopefully there is nothing to it and DDG is in for the long haul.

Really strange move on Valdez behalf, has to be some club at a good level that could give him games. He woukd be first choice at Pool but that wouldn't be hard.
