Renewed Gundogan links I see, I've heard he has been one of very few positives for Dortmund this season

Can play anywhere in a midfield 3, exactly what Van Gaal says he likes

How many games has he played since he came back from injury? I haven't been watching German football much this season.

very talented player but he was out for over 12 months.Be a big risk buying him unless he can perform at a very high level for the rest of the season.Played 12 games so far since his return.

12, he's been fit for almost 3 months now without injury. Only just over a year left on his contract, should get a big move in the summer if he keeps fit

Can we just not get someone without injury questions?

Nope, we need new signings who'll fit into the club's current culture ;)

Apologies if already posted, but out injury list is now at 55...

Here is the breakdown - Luke Shaw with 5 tops the list.

It really is astonishing the amount of injuries.Surely there has to be more to it than just bad luck ?

In saying that, look at all the players we signed over the summer, Falcao being the one who suffered maybe the most injury wise before United. (Although I'm not sure if any of the rest ever were out for long spells) but as soon as they came to United, they all picked up injuries and lengthy ones. Albeit Blinds was on international duty so there's not much we can do there. Just bad luck.

He had one good season at BD from what I can make out - and people seem to be basing what he is about on that. I would be very slow to take up an option to purchase him - been out for too long and there are major questions over his back injuries plus the EPL is a big physical step up from the Bundesliga.

Gundogan at his best was world class. Destroyed Real Madrids midfield in their champions league semi final, home and away he was a standout. He has potential to be fantastic.

Fair to say he's been unlucky with injury, and will be a test of character and determination to see if he can reach his former standard.

What we should be doing is keeping a close eye on his progress and pull the trigger if he looks to be retuning to his best. If our hand gets forced by a move from another club, then a decision can be made at that point.

The alternative is Strootman who is in the same boat, although I'd go as far to say Gubdogan has the higher ceiling.

Also, my phone autocorrects his name to Gun Dogs. What could go wrong?!

Strootman will probably cost quite a lot more based on all the backchat from the chairman. They're both coming back from huge injuries.

I wouldn't worry about buying injury prone players. Anyone who comes to the club turns into Hargreaves these days regardless of past history

Rafael back in training Friday with a mask.

Probably missed too much training to play the weekend though.

i think Barcelona could very well cash him in, but United not the most likely destination.

More on Messi, Claims in the media he is not on speaking terms with Enrique, he is unhappy with Barcelina's transfer policy and who they brought in, yesterday when he didn't turn up for training he refused to answer his phone and the same for his wife when she was called.

Reminds me a bit of Rojo before he left Lisbon, he became a bit disruptive to get his move.
Chelsea are still favourites, but with the United Galactico policy he would be a target one presumes.

I think we need to seek Futureguy's advice on this Messi talk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,422 ✭✭✭Fenix

He doesn't want to (and won't) leave Barca. He wants Enrique to get the boot. I would imagine he will get his way.

Nothing to see here, carry on.

I'll stand in. We are not, and never will be, signing Messi. That's not some hopeful line, it's a cold hard fact.

Guillem Ballague ruins it by saying only three clubs can afford him, I presume for FIFA fair play reasons, and they are United, Bayern and Real Madrid.

Yeah, this one is a non-runner. He wants Enrique gone and knows he'll win any struggle between the two.

If there was a definition of a club who is one man, it's Messi at Barca. He's going nowhere.

given a choice between the two I would go for strootman.

    1. LVG knows him very well and sees him as one of the best CMs around (along with Vidal and Pogba, I believe).
    2. He knows LVG and how he opperates.
    3. I think Gundogans injury concerns are long term and ultimately incurable. From what I remember the best hope is to manage his back issue as best as possible, but it could flare up and lead to lengthy absences. Although Strootmans injury was a bad one, the prognosis for it is good and if the surgery and rehab were done correctly he could/should be fine.

Strootman would cost a lot more - but United make a lot of money and I'd rather go with the more sensible option than the cheaper one.

All lends credence to the talk that Pep left barcelona because he was fed up dealing with Messi and lost the him or me ultimatum.

I would laugh my arse off at all the backtracking at who the best player in the world is though :pac:
"Messi by a mile" would soon turn to "actually when you look at it closely, maybe Ronaldo just shades it"

You would still have people tell you that Messi is so wonderful and Ronaldo is the prima donna of course

Shocking behaviour from him if true and I hope the club take himt ot he cleaners in terms of fines, but the more likely outcome is that the golden boy will be placated and Enrique will be brought to task or sacked.

Hopefully it might be the end of the media and the rest holding Messi up as the golden boy of football at least, doubtful though, Im sure the excuses will be made for him

I didn't think there was much talk about that? From what I heard, Pep was on bad terms with the board, not Messi.

In fact, iirc, Messi was devasted when Pep announced he was leaving and started crying.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

I do remember hearing stuff about Pep getting fed up of Messi, any time Pep would sub him he would throw a strop and not speak to him for days and threw tantrums if it was decided he was going to be rested etc

Pep apparently was fed up of his childish behaviour but got no backing from the board to be firm with him, thus the tension between him and the board

    This.

While Ronaldo has an ego he generally seems to get on well with his co workers and isnt an alleged tax fraud ect.

I hear this is why Alexis left as well, didnt get along with Messi so he was fooked.
