That time of the year again folks. I was wondering has our friend in Laois picked up his new 2015 focus yet?

I don't get it either whatever about changing your car for the same model for a different spec, colour, engine but this guy is the exact same thing identical bar the plate and odometer reading how would you get a buzz out of that. Just my opinion he obviously thinks it's a good idea and the cost is worth it to him.

I too am delighted.
In a roundabout way, new years day would have been diffrent without our resident "new ford" thread!

I'm sure it doesn't cost him a fortune to keep it up to date. Why not change it? I would be inclined to at least change the colour though.

that car probably doesn't even have climate control, what a waste of money. I find it quite sad tbh.

Just wondering what's the the story with the number. I assume this is not registered until 1 Jan. Does this mean that 3 other cars were registered before this today? Were a number of people hoping to get LS 1? Why else would people not wait til tomorrow?

I don't have to but that way it remains under warranty, only have to worry about getting it serviced. Also means I have a car with decent value should my child's needs change, which they probably will.

Can be a pain in the arse though because people are generally not very careful with other peoples property & keeping them in good nick is hard!

He might have the Ford discount scheme too meaning he's probably not losing money at all, or as said the PMC which of you work right will also break even at the least.

If he likes the car best of luck to him.

Dealers can do the registration on-line these days so it and other new cars were probably registered by dealers today if they were open.

At least his somewhat diffrent activity of buying a new focus every year is propping up the local dealer's business on the first of January! Unfortunate that he got shafted on the reg plate!!

I think its a good idea to keep the car up to date every year

Everything new, probably doesnt spend any money on up keep of car and when it comes to resell he probably is better off , with the benifit of having a good relationship with his local dealer.

But if it were me i wouldn't keep getting a focus over again.

Lord almighty wouldn't you think he'd change something, colour, wheels, spec. Guaranteed barely anyone will notice. Sure all that's different is 2 numbers on the back and about 4 numbers on the speedo. If I was in the fortunate position to be able to buy a new car every year, I'd definitely have a different type each year, within a similar price. But each to their own.

I'd assume he has a PCP finance deal whereby he paid a deposit and then just keeps paying the same monthly payments while changing the car every year. It's always under warranty, he never has to worry about services, new tires/lightbulbs/wiper blades etc or depreciation.

Even if he just buys them and trades them in every year, he still gets those benefits and probably gets a good deal for such regular business. And if he likes red cars (everyone knows they're the fastest) then why get anything else.

Dealer may well have a customer who buys yer mans 1 year old car every year too.
I often did annual deals like that where you'd have the trade in sold before you got it. You get to know the customer after a while and know what condition the car will be in.

If he changed makes every year it would certainly cost him a lot more - trading in his Focus for a new one is probably not as expensive as you think. Although it might seem like a waste of money, my guess is that its not costing him more than 60/70 quid a week to upgrade, plus by buying the Focus he is getting what is generally considered to be one of best cars in that class so why change? They are very fuel efficient, low tax, cheap insurance etc.

Plus he probably never spends another penny on the car, if his miles are low he will never service it, buy tyres, pay for any repairs, nor have to deal with the hassle of car giving trouble - if anything goes wrong its at the garages issue to fix it

Maybe not even that. It should be possible to buy, drive for a year, not even open the bonnet and just get another one.
That would save him on servicing and tires, all he does is throw petrol in it.
Still, a bit extreme to get around running costs...:cool:

PS:
151 LS 4 is not on cartell. Also, shouldn't he upgrade every 6 months now?

I heard of a person who worked for a major importer and got a new car every year with a staff discount. At the end of the year, it was sold for cost + road tax + insurance with low mileage privately and immaculate - no bother. Free motoring for that person.

Perhaps yer man has a similar deal.

I suppose as you get older, servicing, NCTs, tyres etc gets much more of a hassle. I can see why an older person might do the above. As mentioned i'd say he has a fixed monthly payment, or at most costs him €2k-€3k a year.
