I have to laugh at this. So where I live (about 10 mins outside a big town) we have no access to DSL. The fastest fixed wireless broadband speed available by suppliers in the area is 8mb (normally around 3mb). But now Vodafone have updated the network in the area and now we have full 4G coverage all over the house and get these speeds http://www.speedtest.net/wp/22973106.png

If only Vodafone offered a limit above 20gb on mobile bradband I'd pick it up in a heartbeat

Universal problem.

You can live in a rural-ish area 10 mins outside of New York City and still get poor broadband. Once your telephone line is more than 5/6 kilometers long, you won't see anything faster than dial-up.

Yup. Absolutely not an Irish problem. You find the exact same the developed world over with a few rare exceptions.

Lived in Queens last year a fifteen minute journey to Manhattan and download speed with TWC was 3meg.
Could barely watch Netflix with it.
4g on my phone was 5meg as well so to say it is an Irish problem is false.

The 4G connection may be faster but speeds will vary alot, especially latency and has limits as you said.

While fixed wireless is usually slower it is usually stable, low latency, unlimited and speeds don't vary (depends how good provider is).
