Modem/Firewall/Router/Hub?

I'm moving houe on june 10th, when I do I'd like to get *DSL from Netsource (if they've solved there connection/ping problems) or eircom.

Now I have PC's, they'll be in seperate rooms but I'd like to network them and give them all access to the internet connection.

Now I've seen broadband routers that have a 4 port hub and a firewall in them but I'm still unsure about what I'd actually need to get all my machines on.

From what I gather its:

Hole in the wall

modem

router/hub

computers

Can anyone tell me if this is right and suggest some reasonably priced kit to achieve this?

You will also need some Cables and network cards if you dont have them. To be very neat you can install wall sockets like i did for the network.

I think the Dlink 504 seems to be the best option. has everything you need built into it and its i think €157 in IT Direct. It has i think firewall built into it as well as adsl modem and its a router (so eh better than hub).

I noticed the 504 is discontinued but they repaced it with the 604 if anyone else is interested in buying one

is this a modem as well?

Iam a bit confused after looking at their website.

seems to indicate you need a modem to connect to the internet.

Also check out the D-Link 614+ for a wireless flavour of the same thing. Only $99 from the D-Link shop. This one has a firewall in it, but no modem.

They include modem/router/4-port hub/wireless networking (Which should be tidier than cables) I myself am going for the (cheaper) Linksys one to network my powerbook, main PC, dad's laptop and brother's iMac

eircom sell two iStream products, single user and multi user. Can you successfully use a router and feed multiple computers on their single user product?

to put it simply, yes. although its against the T&C. the disadvantage is that with 4 pcs you are more likely to go over the cap.
