Breakaway F1 Championship

Just wanted to hear what ye think will happen. Rumours are that the FIA and the teams are close to a deal which will increase the teams intake from TV revenue from 47% to 60%. I think it's only fair really especially for teams lower than the grid. It will an extra 13% to pump into the team.

So what do ye think, will the breakaway happen or do you think the teams will agree with whatever proposals the FIA put to them.

I for one don't think it will happen. The FIA would be stupid not to give into the teams requests. And I think they will succumb to the team bosses.

Breakaway - will it, won't it 13 votes

I believe the current contracts are in place for a another few years so the FIA really has to get its act together and try and make the sport more of a spectical, if it does then I don't see how break away championship could ever get off the ground.

Unless things change dramatically in F1 i will be fully supportive of the Grand Prix World Championship (GPWA) teams will enjoy a greater share of the TV revenue which will be more fairly distributed amongst the teams. there will be a ban on these sissy driver aids which are making a total mockery of F1. It will be much more manufacturer friendly thus there will be works engines for all. Eddie Jordan and Renault`s Flavio Briatore have already taken an interest in this breakaway series.

I don't think the teams are going on the basis that the sport is not a very spectator friendly sport, it has more to do with not getting their fair share of the TV Revenue and that the smaller teams are struggling in the big picture. Also the engine manufacturers are cgarging unbelievable prices for engine contracts. Cosworth were reportadly charging 20million a year.

I reckon that the solution is to give the team's what they deserve from the TV intakes and to enforce Max Mosley's deal with the engine manufacturers to supply engines for a fixed price (the max price been 10million)

For a long time, I suspected the entire GPWC thing was just posturing on behalf of the bigger teams in order to renegotiate the deal with Bernie in order to get some more money. But now I reckon they're fairly serious about the entire thing.

It would be pretty disastrous for the sport in general if a split did occur. Look at what's happened in the States with the IRL and Champ Cars. They have two similar series trying very hard to distinguish themselves to the detriment of both.

IRL seems to be doing fine. CART is dying.

IRL is pants. They only run on ovals, the cars are underpowered, have too much downforce and look awful. They're trying to dumb it down to form a single seater Nascar.

Championships that run only on ovals should DIE

Bernie has bought ( or is in talks to buy ) CART and make it into a junior F1 which will give him a few more options ie if F1 goes down (heaven forbid) he could expand CART into a new global race series....... kinda like F1.......

The teams do all the work so why shouldn't they get a decient cut from the profits, lets face it no-one wants to interview the officals before a race.

I still see the GPWC as a (very strong) bargaining tool... and now there appear to be splits in the ranks (BMW grumbling about the position Daimler-Chrysler are taking within the GPWC) their position is weakening. Oh and Bernie now partyl owns Minardi... clever that...
