If you can do it from an older computer with a serial connection, you'll likely have a better chance of success.

The USB null modems seem to have varying degrees of success.

I suspect your box is suffering from a power problem though. Usually, when reflashing is needed, even though the box won't work, the display will show something - usually 'ASH'.

Don't have an old computer but might be able to get my hands on one in a week or so. Have bundles of cables here, in fact my living room floor is resembling spaghetti junction. Am totally lost when it comes to all this stuff, nothing is showing up on the box whatsoever. If the box is suffering from a power problem, does that mean that I might as well give up.

I am petrified now of doing any updates on my other box.

If its a power supply problem that can be replaced.

In theory, the update shouldn't have caused a power problem so perhaps co-incidence??!! I certainly wouldn't go upgrading another 250 using the same software!

How old is the box? If it's not in warranty, you could open it and have a look for any fuses inside that may be blown. I've never had to open any ariva box like this so I don't know but some boxes have fuses inside.

    Disconnect from the mains first!!

Both boxes are two years old. To ensure that same software is not being used I have deleted it from the USB stick. Very wary now.

Suppose if I can do nothing else with it, I might as well open it up to see if there are any fuses but first I will do some internet searches to see if there are any visuals, lost both of my manuals so can't check them. Tony, is the power supply something that is easy to replace?

Any idea of the cost Tony, if it is too expensive it might not be worth it. So annoyed I did the update, I was just wanted to get new channels & delete numerous duplicates channels.

The lads at Sat World off the Kylemore Road are happy to answer all questions you could give them a call, I always found them to be straight up and helpful.

Did you try switching off at the mains or with the switch on the back of the box for 10 secs and restarting?

That (very rarely) happens mine and a restart sorts it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 207 ✭✭thatsmyboy

Yea did a full restart twice during the week but no joy I'm afraid.

Hi I have a 250 box and was taping match during week, but got home in middle of it and wanted to watch match from start. I had to rewind what I had recorded , but is there any way I could have viewed recording from start while it continued to record without having to wind it all back and I even had to watch it rewinding,

    Thanking you

    1 option

if you had your laptop on same network you could access your recordings and play it on vlc media player on your laptop

I'm having the same issue with a ariva 120. It only updates now/next if I go to a Soarview channel, and back to a satellite channel.

How can you do this? I don't think my Ariva's HDD appears as a networked drive.

Have been trying to get RTE on my Ariva 250 Combo since the switchover to no avail. Terrestrial scan isn't picking it up, only BBC, UTV, C4 etc. Anyone have any ideas?

Do you have a soarview aerial connected to the box?

I was scratching my head trying to understand how he was getting BBC, UTV etc

Did not think of the obvious that he is getting them from the sat. feed and has no terrestrial aerial plugged in.

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhhhhhhh

I honestly have no idea. We have 2 aerials on the roof. One is pointed to Divis, the other is pointed towards Newry. That's all I can tell you I'm afraid.

I do not know what Divis is but is either of those two aerials actually connected to your box?

Are they plugged into the back of the box though?

Divis is the TV Transmitter at Belfast. The two aerials merge into one cable which goes into a P1235 Power unit which then goes into the Ariva 250 Combo.

I put my address in and the second aerial is pointed at Clermont Carn at Newry, which is the recommended one via that site.
