Lets hope they egg each other on!!

Bit unusual that they dont do the usual as their may be huge advantage been first out etc!!

Not really here, limited field means there's way less time between 1st off and last and also Dubai weather is fairly constant.

I didn't see much after about 10 a.m. Did Sky show much of Shane? They will tomorrow, that's for sure!

That didn't show him at all until the 16th, where they showed his birdie putt to get to 5 under. Then they showed his tee shot and his putt on the par three 17th and all but his tee shot on the 18th. Not a lot of coverage for someone shooting a 66.

As you say, we're likely to see a bit more of him today.

Delighted for how the season has turned around for Shane.

I was a bit nervous about his start of season. I don't know if this is going to be a feature of his off season.

Most of the best players do load their seasons to the end of the year. Didn't feel Shane was at the level yet. This year it wasn't by choice - he jut started playing well at the right time.

Fantastic stuff - I'm not sure how this Irish Olympic qualification is going to work - would love Shane and Rory.

Every year a big year - but will be interesting to see how 2015 goes for Shane.

I really hope he does not 'relax' or be in 'awe' of Rory too much, nice to be friends but he needs game face too

I know it was the Irish Open (2 years ago) they were together - they seemed like friends , not rivals.

But it seems to be his nature.

Is it a good thing ?

I'm hoping they will pull each other along. Unfortunate drive by Lowry on the first, but at least he just got on with it, unlike Grillo a few minutes earlier, who had a stand up row with John Parrimore about getting relief.

Wouldn't worry about him being in awe of Rory, if anything I think he'd be less affected by Rory than most, having played with him up through the ranks. He has also beaten him on the big stage too, first round of the WGC Matchplay the year before last.

He beat Rory in the world matchplay last year so going by that playing alongside him won't phase Shane at all.

Personally I think last week's blow-up was down to Shane knowing he is right on the verge of top 50 rather than a 'lapse in concentration' and putting himself under pressure to achieve it. While his on-course demeanour is very laid back he still feels pressure as much as any golfer. Similar to guys like Els or Couples in that way (though obviously not in their league yet). Love to see him make it this week, would be a great end to a great season.

Very shaky start today. Two bogeys in the first three holes and a near impossible bunker shot to come on the 4th.

I never rate that win over Rory, Rory played brutal that day and it took two chip ins to beat him, this was the beginning of Rory's horrible stretch.
Anyhow, Shane's demeanor looks deflated today, lot of shrugging and poor ball striking...

Some round from Cabrera-Bello, a 64 with four 5's on the card.

I think beating him as the up to now underdog - is way easier than - trying to play on a level par with someone.

Behind it all - I think Shane's jokey - friendly approach hides a nervousnesses.

I think it will have to go - and will go with time when he is in the big time. This is very soon.

Rory is/ is going to be the new Tiger Woods - very few people ever like playing with them.

Either way - very poor start.

Ropey enough start from Shane with a couple of bogeys in the first 3, at least he got the birdie on the par 5.

And another gone on the 4th, hasn't settled at all I'm afraid. Back in the pack now.

He is playing with McIlroy - Bogey, Birdie, Bogey, Bogey start!

Shocking start. Really needs to get into his round. He is getting passed by lots of players

It seems to be a birdie fest out there....except for Shane. He seemed fussed after that bunker shot on the fourth. Just hope he settles.

I know we can look too deeply into these things - but hey, we are golf fans / sport fans.

Shane's crowd are fairly vocal - sure I'd be a "come on Shane".

Earlier on - there was a "come on Shane from a lad that clearly knew him". The difference with Shane , Shane waved to him. Nice to see.

But you just don't see that with most top sport people.

One day they show every shot by Shane - having a shocker.

    "Come on Shane" . :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,078 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

This group jinxed today - did you see that shocker from Rory? I hope Shane can just survive this and remember that there is a lot more golf to play. Still on the green in 3, after taking a circuitous route.

Needs to hang on in there. Get a few pars on the card and try get yourself back to 6 under by the 18th.

Yes, heard that too, there's a group of local lads here who go to the Portugal Masters and Dubai to cheer him on...

It happened there again - good shot , big roar.

That is fine, great to see , but Shane is waving at them there.

I'm being a bit Roy Keane here, but he could do without that - or at least ignore them - sorry.

I agree. Seems to have steadied the ship there with a few pars on what seems to be a difficult part of the course.

I guess we are seeing a bit more of what goes on with Shane - nice to see every shot.

Even nice to see him grit this out.
