Just wondering if anyone happens to have any further information about the Shell Fibre run from Bellmullet to Loughrea 132Km run they are giving to the state.

    http://www.thejournal.ie/shell-protests-boradband-announcement-1734548-Oct2014/

Its due to be rolled out starting first quarter 2015

    Im curious on the following:
    1. Any information plotting proposed VDSL cabs. New or ones which will be connected.

    2. If FTTH will be considered on the route.

Im guessing this may not be answered yet until the service providers win their bids to utilize the network at which case its up to them where they will drop in VDSL cabs?

However there is a small resolution map which looked like a google map based on the placemark icons which showed ALOT of placemarks on it. Anyone have a very high resolution of this.

    Thanks,
    Nick.

Its most likely core fibre. If the ducting is in place its an easy job for a few vans to go an blow the fibre then splice the spans and fit repeaters as needed.

The idea for an interconnect like this is to provide high bandwidth access to last mile providers. This could mean UPC, Eircom Wholesale, ESB, or FWA providers.

    Looking at it though....

    ESB:

....the only real benefit that could come from this is the belmullet peninsula getting the potential for better interconnects. That might be two rural exchanges going from 3Mb DSL up to 24Mb and maybe better/new fixed wireless for a few. I dont know the area well but AFAIK its mostly bogland / heritage areas. Not a huge number of people to benefit from it.

More of Enda's BS for letting state assets be robbed from us. Well done.
