As a people we've a reputation for being funny in a sarcastic droll sort of way.
Then how come our home grown comedy troups like the ones listed above are so awfully poor, they're an embarrassment to the point I'd pretend never to have heard of them if someone asked my opinion.
Does nobody have the courage to but the hand on their shoulder & have a word ?.
Someone in RTE must be promoting this muppetry.

The Hardy Bucks are very good, The Rubberbandit's TV sketches are also very good, and Damo and Ivor is only all right.

    I heartily endorse this muppetry.

I liked Hardy Bucks on Youtube, you knew it was on a low budget and were making the most of what they had. Don't think it translated to TV.
RTE have never had a great history with mainstream sitcoms.

Rubberbandits are one of the best satirical comedy groups out there at the moment. They hit certain themes with pinpoint accuracy. It's scathing commentary that's actually bang on, whether they're exposing the stupidity of hipsters or the mid-life crisis of an Irish male.

    Have a look at "Dad's Best Friend" - it's actually f*cking genius.

I never mentioned Savage Eye in the OP cause I think that can be very good.
I could have thrown Mario in though, his TV program is crap.

Too many Irish comedians seem to think comedy is putting on an accent and acting like an eejit.

If you don't like them, don't watch them. problem solved.

The second season on TV is actually excellent. I stopped watching during the first televised season as it was awful, and I am a major fan of the youtube episodes. Saw the second RTE season recently and it's a return to form imo.

RTE are the master of making a sow's ear out of a silk purse, the Hardy Bucks TV show was very poor in comparison to the online stuff they had been doing before. Rubber Bandits made the transition a bit better but the skits and music videos they released separate to RTE were certainly a lot better than their stuff on Republic of Telly. They seem to have a great ability to make something good a lot worse. Completely different, but I'd say the same about the Second Captains TV show in comparison to the podcast and radio show on Newstalk that preceded it.

The type of Irish comedy that's beaten to death is "accent comedy", putting on a Cork accent and away you go.

hardy bucks was good on youtube, rte made a mess of it
damo and ivor is quite funny at times, andy quirke is talented imo

2 million hits on youtube isnt bad

    G'way outta that...

The Rubberbandits are genius. Genuinely funny in an original, surreal style with deep insight and intelligence behind it. They don't get half as much exposure as they deserve.

Hardy Bucks are fairly amusing... The movie had it's moments. They're not terrible.

Damo and Ivor is about as funny as a four year old's funeral. Subtle as a sledgehammer, lowest common denomintor humour. Stupid.

Definitely another vote here for the EpicNewsDaily lads. Tallafornia Swipe and Game of Mobile Homes are laugh out loud hilarity.

Hardy Bucks used to be funnier. The Vipers stuff on youtube is pretty good aswell.

Rubberbandits are very good most of the time.

I defy anyone who grew up in rural Ireland to watch D'unbelievables and not recognise most of the characters they portray.. Especially the two lads at the back of the church. Jon Kenny and Pat Shortt put on ultra bogger accents and act the eejit and they, in my opinion, typify Irish comedy.

To be fair I'm not sure how well their act would be perceived outside Ireland but that's beyond the point.

I haven't really seen much of The Hardy Bucks, and didn't like Damo And Ivor, but The Rubberbandits are very good. Have you seen their history of Ireland?

I played this for a humourless, not very intelligent workmate who replied "But they got some of those facts wrong!".

Paths to Freedom was better than any of those three

My two little kids have latched on to this one joke that involves calling me by name and then answering NOTHING! They can do this up to 20 times a day, leading you to contemplate murder.

I think of it as the rubberbandits syndrome.

I bought Series 1 of this based on good reviews. I thought it was terrible, borderline unwatchable.

But Comedy is very much each to their own. The Dectorists on BBC4 for example is, in my opinion, the best comedy produced in years - however plenty I recommended it to didn't find it particularly funny.

A lot if those acts, are hampered by money. Without sounding like a hipster, the like of the bandits is art.

Just because a few spastic hawks can't get it dosent mean it's funny, the worst thing to happen to the rubberbandits is horse outside. Spastic hawk was made to tell those fans that shout play horse outside at every gig, to piss off.

I remember watching D'Unbelieveables with a friend from the North, of the protestant persuasion. He hadn't a clue what was going on, although a lot of that might have been the accents.
