Red setter

    Hi I've a red setter bitch coming up to 11 months old she is setting on rabbit and crawling in on her belly but no real interest in pheasant now she hasn't seen that many and I keep her away from rabbit areas will she come in her own time or should I be trying something was running her today behind English setter still not that interested ! Any help please !

    reds are not like any other breed of setter or pointer they are slower to mature,it could be near the end of next season before it all comes together for your dog so keep going with your dog it will all come togeather.

    Slow to get going but if it clicks for them they are among the best pointers, my own bitch was 18 months before she got steady but shes a serious dog on a bird now,

    Give them plenty time and get them on ground with pheasants etc it will all click after a bit

    If you want her to hunt pheasant bring her to pheasant land, although as others have stated 11 months is still young and her time will come.
    also with the unusually warm autumn scenting conditions for pheasants hasn't been ideal and it's only in the last week or two that things have picked up
