Writing your own reference

    I'm being made redundant after a very long time with the same company and my boss has told me that I can write my own reference. It's a small company and I do all the admin including references etc. He reckons that I would have a better idea of what I need for future employers. Basically I will do the first draft and he will add his own contribution.
    I have no idea where to start, how can you be objective about yourself ?
    What are the essential things to include ? I know it's a great opportunity but I need help please.

    Why be objective?

    Write a glowing reference and let your boss edit it. She probably won't.

    I like your style ;);)
    I used to writing bog standard ones for employees but I'm not sure what to put in my own. Do I confirm the details in my CV, state how competent I was etc

    Dates you worked there, you were great at your job, was given a lot of responsibility and produced great results, would definitely hire again.
