Reading between the lines?

I've noticed a mate who was unusually down in the dumps recently so eventually got it out of him that he'd been seeing someone and both of them were keeping it quiet for various reasons. Things started off great and slowly but surely life started getting in the way of coupley things so he sent her a text saying things seemed to have stalled and asked her to talk - specifically said "We need to talk" and she never responded and a few months of silence followed.

He eventually sent her another text wondering what was going on and she responded saying that everyone knows that "We need to talk" means "You're Dumped".

Have to say it was a new one on me, my advice to him was that someone who thinks like that really isn't worth any effort especially as he assured me he really wanted to sort things out.

Baffles me that someone was willing to so easily give up a relationship over reading between the lines and a massive leap of supposition. Stuff like this makes me glad to be single, not my mate though!

    Any opinions?

Sorry OP, but Personal Issues, as the name suggests, is for posters to come and seek advice on issues in their lives - it's not a discussion forum. Thread closed.

    Regards,
