    Hi All

So my current card, a GeForce 640 just isn't cutting it. I am looking for a card that will let me play new games smoothly on high settings for at least two/three years. I'm willing to spend around 300e to this end.

    I have 8gb ram and i5 core 4440 cpu.

Can you help me out with recommendations please?

What resolution do you game at?

GTX 970 could be ideal, starting at ~€300

    1920 x 1080.

also I think I only have around 350w psu, will check when I get home. presume I need to upgrade that if I want to run a decent gpu?

If it's only 350w then yes you should upgrade it. You would get away with a decent 450w psu though. If you're upgrading I'd grab something in the 500-600w region. Decent brand, 80+ bronze rated at least.

A GTX970 and decent quality 450w+ psu is going to set you back close to €400.

The other option would be something like an R9 280X plus PSU for under the €300.

    Still a titanic upgrade from a GT640.

You could also hold out to see what the GTX960 will bring in a few weeks.

went for a r9 280x and a 620w PSU for around 300 in the end.
