I think its more about measuring network traffic at a high level to see what traffic is utilizing most resources.
    I have heard of S-Flow, J-Flow?

    In an IT department?
NetFlow for Cisco or J-Flow (Traffic Vision) for Juniper.
Used to monitor who's creating/receiving network traffic and what type of traffic.
