I think it's more the straw that broke the camels back than just the money, everything is being put to the players as an ultimatum, it's either Davy's way or the high way and the players are getting a bit sick of it.

And rightly so. It's a hard call as Davy won the All-Ireland last year but he is a polarising character. He can't expect either of the Collins' to pick hurling over football especially as their father is the senior football manager. I'd understand the hurlers siding with the Collins'.

My general thought, if this is true, is that players play and the county board and clubs choose the management.

It'll be interesting to see how things unfold....

Only guessing but I'd say there's way more rumours knocking about than actual truth.

It would be pretty poor timing at the very least. Let the U21s enjoy there time in the sun.

Davys comments last summer won't have helped his relationship with the clubs.
The supposed 'dark forces' out to hinder the team was a dig at clubs.
I'd say that particular wedge will widen rather than close

The clubs organizing their own meetings and excluding Sixmilebridge from them was a clear sign with unhappiness with either Davy or the County Board (Pat).

If this is true, and I don't doubt you Clareman, it's the clearest sign so far that they want to "out" Davy!

Here's an article about it http://www.clarepeople.com/2014/06/18/clare-senior-club-championship-goes-ahead-as-clubs-flex-muscles/

I don't think it's fair to say that they want to "out" Davy, but they want to have the club championship played during the summer rather than rushing to get it played in October.

The reason that the clubs organised their own meeting was to endure pre arranged fixtures went ahead.
In times past if a county manager wanted games cancelled the club delegates simply bent to this will.
Last summer management if the various clubs met as one, appointed Crusheen manager as a spokesperson for the group and let the board know that if it went to a vote, they were voting in favour of club games progressing as planned.

Great turn out in town this evening, especially nice to see all the young boys and girls with hurleys pucking around.

was'nt in town but in general it is great for kids to see so much success to the county in truth the lads on the field yesterday were probably too young to have wached clare win an all ireland so its great motivation for the kids and for the future inter county teams ,

in regards all the rumors i havent heard anything diffrently to whats being posted reacently but the general feeling is the players dont seem too happy with how things are being run'd at the moment hopfuly its sorted quickly, couldnt ignore the tribute paid to paul kinnerk by tony kelly last night was it a plea to kinnerk to stay on or was it aimed at someone else to change there mind, or a send off ......who knows!!!!

just in relation to the podge thing again http://m.hoganstand.com/Home/Details/224200?county=Clare a write up in the hogan stand website last week from ger loughnane from last week agree with most of what he says

Paul Kinnerk, Mike Deegan and Joe O'Connor are gone.

    http://www.rte.ie/sport/gaa/hurling/2014/0917/644359-backroom-shake-up-for-clare-hurlers/

I don't blame Paul really for taking a year out. He is getting engaged and if he want to do a bit of travelling, nobaody can hold that against him. That said he is a huge loss, and Davy's appointment of a trainer is critical.

Well done to Mike and Joe too for their contributions. Hopefully the rumoured rift among the Cratloe lads isnt too bad now that Mike is gone. Michael Browne who was involved with the sucess of Crusheen and Tulla is brought in so hopefully he can bring something.

Having read the article I'm of the understanding that Joe and Mike are just getting new roles within the squad? ?

Yeah, you're right I read it wrong.

I believe that the position with Joe O'Connor is that Kevin Harold is taking over as the S&C coach, with Joe in some sort of advisory role.

I dont know what role Mike will play, but it seems that Michael Browne will be taking his previous position.

Actually have it now from a very reliable source that Mike deegan has indeed left the set up. Nothing sinister in it. .... Just had enough after 3 years. Fair play to him. Great servant.

Think Micheal Browne had some involvement last yr. In the stands as analyst or something along those lines.

Personally I'm happy with him as a selector. He deserves a post with a County team when looking at his club record.
Crucially Browne won't be simply a yes man which is something I feared Deegans replacement would amount to.

Derrick Lynch on his twitter account released a few statements from Mike, Paul, Joe and Davy himself on the matter. All were quite interesting.

Mike will only be involved on match day so it fair to say he is being replaced by Browne.

Paul Kinnerk expressed interest in returning to the setup in 2016, which is good news! But that could be tricky for a new trainer coming in, and say, doing a good job.

The most interesting words came from Davy on the matter. He talked about how they made their position clear to Podge that the dual commitment didn't work and that they wanted a fully committed panel for 2015. Podge chose football and Davy and co. wished him well, but also reiterated that the door is open.

nice draw for the footballers in the 2015 national football league with 4 games at home

    1ST of February wexford (h)

    8th of February louth ( A )

    1st of march sligo (H)

    7th of march tippearay (a)

    15th of march armagh (h)

    28 of march limerick (a)

    5th of April fermanagh (h)

the hurlers have been handed a more challanging draw with only 2 games at home, 3 away starting in galway

    15th of febuary galway (a)

21st of febuary (Saturday) cork (a)

    8th of march tipperary (h)

    15th of march dublin (h)

    22nd of march kilkenny (a)

only the possability of one double heder for the footballers and the hurlers on paddys weekend with armagh and dublin due in town on the same day although clare and tipperary will meet on the same weekend the week before , with the football away on the 7th and hurling at home on the 8th , should be an interesting spring ,

Champion reporting that Cathal McInerney will play for the footballers full time too. I dont think people will be hugely surprised by this. He is a highly rated footballer in Clare, while he is a sub for the hurlers.

Another good boost for football in the county.

Best of luck to him and he should be a great addition to the football panel. Be interesting to see if any more jump ship in the coming weeks!

Wonder that he is a fellow Cratloe man has anything to do with it
(Apart from the fact that they are a strong footballing force within the county and he is one of their best player of course).

Anyways whatever the reason I wish him the best of luck, a big boost for the footballers and an opportunity for another young lad on the hurling panel.

Why? Bearing in mind he led us to an all Ireland championship win only 12 months ago? ? Short memory perhaps?

Did Domhnall O'Donovan play any championship matches for Clare this year, and, if not, what was the reason?

Don't think he played at all, afaik no reason that anyone outside the mamagement/squad knows of. Seems a harsh demotion on the face of it and rumor has it a number of players were less than pleased with how he was treated.

I've no idea if there is any substance to them or not, Clare hurling rumours are ten a penny these days unfortunately :).

Jack Browne and Seadna Morey pushed for places in the back line ?

Dillon and McInerney were never likely to be dropped

Closest O Donovan got to championship minutes was ready to come on at the end of the drawn game v Wexford just as et ended.
Think he missed some early season training due to work commitments which I guess wouldn't sit great with the manager.

Morey isn't a natural corner back and Browne was raw imo so I'm surprised O Donovan didnt see action.

Don't think the Clonlara cintingent were too impressed with how he was treated

there is no doubt davy fitz lost an awful lot of support with the clare people this year , with the treatment of the local media ( who never did anything wrong in the first place ) and the way he treated the clubs half way through the championship, there is no way i would doubt the fact that he most probably dropped donal for his work commitments, thats if he treats the players the same way he treats everyone else of course

but some of the rumors were well off the mark, i would expect things to settle back down again shortly , to give davy his credit he is a very good manager but the off the field stuff has to stop

If it is the case that he missed some training, hypothetically, then picking guys like that aren't going to win you the all-Ireland unfortunately

The guy you're marking in the championship won't take it easy on you cos you've been busy at work

You could almost turn it around and say Davy wasn't afraid to make a hard decision
