Getting message - Amazon Fire TV is only available for customers living in the UK.

Anyone find a way around this?

The message appears as soon as I open the page. Don't even get as far as selecting my Parcel Motel address.

Just ignore it and keep going.

It is selling to me at £79 & not £49.

Have you signed up to Prime?

You have to sign up to Amazon Prime for that price. You get a free 30 day trial which you can cancel with no charges. Don't forget to cancel though, or you end up with £79 a year bill.

I don't think there is a free trial of Amazon Prime at the moment which means it might cost you £79 to join Amazon Prime.

You can add up to 4 "family/household" accounts onto your prime membership which they share. Although they don't have to be at the same address so it's a nice way to split the cost of prime (it was great back when prime was much less). The only thing "family" members don't get is the instant video and book lending. So find a nice person with a Prime account.

They apply the discount at the very end of the order process.

I already have a Prime account. I changed the delivery address to my Parcel Motel address. But the order process states the price of £79 all the way through until the very last section, when the discount is finally applied.

Does this do much that I can't do with my Chromecast?

It can run XMBC. It's probably more suited for running local content than the CC. You can plug a hdd into it and it plays the content whereas the Chromecast requires another device to push the local content via for instance some Plex solution which I've never found great

Does this gadget have the Amazon Kindle version of Android? In that it cannot be unlocked to put custom firmware on it?

Does it? I spotted an article that said that you couldn't play movies off a USB stick via the USB port.

    Have they allowed access since?

Truthfully without knowing if this is going to be geoblocked out of the box I wouldn't be jumping to buy one untill someone else as tried it in Ireland

Just from watching a youtube vid there it looked comparable with XBMC on the Ouya which is great. I've heard XBMC on the RP is pretty underpowered

would a vpn not sort that?

A router based VPN may sort that out, however this may beyond the capabilities of a lot of the people who may order one off the back of this thread

Additionally it's an extra annual cost which will cut into the "bargain" aspect over a few years.

Want to use Fire TV outside the UK?

If you're travelling with Amazon Fire TV, you can access apps and games you've downloaded to your device. With a UK address and credit card, you'll also be able to purchase new apps and games for Amazon Fire TV while you are abroad. To access Amazon Instant Video movies and TV shows, you must be physically present in the UK and have a UK billing address. Many third-party services and media apps are not available outside the UK.

I have a kindle fire HD, and none of the lovefilm or prime instant (or whatever it's called) is available here on it. I'd assume this is the same.

As a straightforward android box without love film and prime instant it's a great bargain IMO.
