Hi all!! I am enquiring for a friend of mine that is moving to Ireland soon to look for a job due to personal reasons. They are in receipt of an umemployment payment in Spain, but what they wanted to know about is whether they would be entitled to any form of social welfare payment in Ireland as they look for a job?

Any insight would be much appreciated!!

As far as im aware they can claim social welfare from Spain for a period of three months. Not irish social welfare but spanish...after that they must work in ireland for a period of 18 months before they could possibly claim in ireland..check in citizens advice.

They can move their Benefit for Spain to Ireland for 78 days but they have to do all that before they leave Spain. SW here will not do it for them.

How does that work then? Do Spain pay the friend into a bank account?

Your friend needs to discuss this with his local SW office in Spain as it does take some time to organise.
